My mom is less on board with my surgery than id like, my sister also. Ive been trying to prepare for the next 3 weeks(surgery is May 5) and I have to stay with my mom after surgery. They are saying, you dont have to do this now, you can wait ... its so permanent...I always back down but I really want this... I had lapband I messed it up. I am trying to learn from my mistakes.. I think shes freaked out because its so permanent. I take alot of meds and shes concerned once I do it will I be able to handle it. Her anxiety is making me question my decision.. Responses would be greatly appreciated... thanks

Your family has concerns because they care about you, and that anxiety is understandable. It's a major procedure… one that will alter your body and lifestyle forever! Of course, nly you have the answer to the questions should I really do this or can I handle this. At the end of the day, the decision is yours and yours alone. Should you do it? You tell me. Can you handle it? With some hard work and dedication, yes you can. And you have hundreds of like-minded souls right here to support you along the way. You'll notice that the vast majority of people here have never looked back once they made the decision. And while I'm still in the early stages post-op, so far, I'm one of those people.

Now, I had full support from my family. But had that not been the case, even if they had been kicking and screaming at the hospital door begging me not to do it, I would have gone ahead with it anyway because I was tired of being miserable. I was tired of taking a million medications. I was tired of being tired. How "tired" are you?

I hope you find the support and answer you are looking for. You deserve to be healthy. Please keep us updated.

Be well…

My husband and I are 67 and had the sleeve over 4 months ago. Ten years of looking at WLS, seminars, and hoping. The day finally came for us as our health worsened. Both of us are diabetic, have HBP, I had a knee replacement, and so forth. I no longer take Metformin for diabetes, we are off 2 blood pressure meds, and we have each lost 60 lbs. We would do this again in a heartbeat. I spent one night in the hospital and took 1 dose of pain med at home. I felt great and shopped 2 days later. Why will you stay at your Mom's? Hmmmm, that should be stressful under the circumstances. Just have your Soups and shakes, broth, Crystal Light on hand and you are good for 2 weeks LOL. I was at the mall about 4 days after surgery and walked several hours. The surgery was 10 times easier than we expected. Let your Mom read some of the posts here about gastric sleeve, and learn. This is the only WLS we ever considered because personally we felt it was the safest. You need to separate yourself from anyone making you anxious and relax. I don't know your age but I think you are a grown woman. This was the best choice ever for me and my husband and we would do it again in a heartbeat! Best of luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
