Had my lap banding on 3/5/07. I was scared to death---never have been put to sleep or in the hospital for anything other than giving birth. This was a dramatic choice for me I am going to be 60 years old, lived all my life as a "fat person". I did alot of reading and internet work on lap band. I found the best lap band Dr. and support group here in NJ. They are Virtua Hospital new beginnings, nurses, classes, nutritional classes and a gym.

So off I went for the procedure they ended up having to cut me about a 4 inch spot because they had trouble getting the port in the right place. I look at the scar now as my badge of courage. I have lost 35 lbs to date and feel like a lion. I walk every day about 1-mile. I have endless energy. Before I was a insulin dependent diabatic-not sure if I am any more-----my insulin requirements now are almost nothing I think as more weight comes off I will pack away the needles. I have not had a blood sugar over 100. funny thing when they woke me up in recovery the Dr. said "cindy I just gave you back 15 years to add onto your life" but that is the best way to think about this. :clap2:

Welcome Cindy. I was banded 3/7, right behind you. I feel a lot better too. My blood pressure is lower than it has been in years. Although I am still taking medication for it I am hoping to wean myself off soon. Have you been to the March bandster thread? Come on over if you would like. It is a pretty big thread. There were a lot of March surgeries. Good luck to you.
