Am I just weird...or is this "normal"?

So here's the deal...I was sleeved on Feb 27th and virtually felt no major pain. (Possibly because I had gallbladder surgery on Jan 6th...and that was ridiculously painful) I was nauseated for the first two days but have been fine since. I am still craving food and I have been on pureed foods since day 3. I feel hungry most times. It almost feels like they cut me open and forgot to take part of the stomach out. I know I should be greatful...but I am wondering if this is going to work. Ugh! I have been reading a lot of posts and all I see are people with all the opposite issues.

They put us on 'real' food after 6 days. I have to say I've been eating 1/2 cup of things like chicken and veggies and I'm hungry, too. I'm hoping its in my mind but I was in the hospital feeling hungry too.

Congratulations on your surgery. Are you taking a PPI? My doctor had me on one for a month after surgery, she said that the stomach gasses can mimic hunger pains initially. Some folks had to increase their doses or try a different one. Head hunger can be trickier, and might take some time to distinguish. I was fortunate not to have traditional hunger return, but I have read from many that it never really left. As you progress in your diet, you should feel full easier. Best of luck.

Sorry... Proton-pump inhibitors , medications to reduce gastric acids. Like Nexium or Prilosec. Nexium is perscription, but there are other that are over the counter acid reducers.

I had my surgery on February 13th and I am hungry. Some of it is definately "head" hunger but I do feel actual hunger. I am having a very hard time tolerating many things, though. The protein shakes are making me gag, soups and broth don't interest me anymore (they make me nauseous), and I can't stomach jello now. It really is hard. But I know that this too shall pass and I am biding my time. I hope and pray that it does pass and I can eat again, NO soups!! Ha ha!

So, you're not alone. I think it must be normal to feel hungry. Let's hang in there all together.

I agree with JerseyGirl - it may be acid.

There are times that I feel hunger when it's not normal for me - it will go away if I take an acid reducer. I didn't know this in the beginning and I confused this feeling with hunger, as well.

I had mine on the 18th. I started feeling really hungry on about day 6. I was worried and thought oh no, what am I going to do? I am now day 15 and am rarely hungry. I usually eat so I can get my Protein in. Last night I had to drink a Protein shake to get to my protein level for the day but really did not feel hungry.
