Bad day !

Recommended Posts

Im curious if anyone has ever had a bad day like I did yesterday ! From morning until night I couldnt eat or drink anything...I mean my Protein Shake wouldn't even go down....water got stuck ! I'm usually tight in the mornings and by lunch things move better. My last fill was the end of January and I have abt 5.5ccs in my band now. I have never had a day like this before. I was beginning to get scared. Today has been much better...I can drink and it goes down....I ate some yogurt and that was fine as well. I'm so thankful for a better day. I will be doing full liquids for the next few days just to let things settle down from my bad day.....any thoughts or experiences like this ??

I've never had an experience as extreme as nothing will go down but I do occasionally have a few days where I have to use coffee or Water to aid food to slide through and chew a lot of course.

It's understandable once you get to the green zone or close to it. Your stomach is just another muscle so if you're retaining weight(sodium for us guys, TOM for girls) or if you have a little stomach bug, or even air pressure all can cause the lining in your stomach to inflame. This makes your stoma smaller and can cause a complete blockage where you need a small .1 unfill.

Think of the band as if it's a ring on your finger. Some days that ring is very tight and others it might fly off if you tired to throw a rock.

I didn't think abt the swelling...my fingers do swell a lot depending on my sodium intake....I usually can't eat a good portion until late afternoon...I've tried to use coffee and a heating pad to loosen me up in the mornings but that hasn't seemed to work much...but I'm ok with my shake and then yogurt in the mornings and if I get hungry I snack on some nuts....but I got worried because Water just felt like it wasn't going down...I felt like I had a bubble in my throat....I'm going to try watching my sodium intake and see if that helps me with my swelling ! Thanks

my doctor one of the first things she wanted from me was a ring on my finger. if the ring is tight just assume that your band might be a bit tight and eat accordingly. I now know what ppl are talking about when they say the band is effected in the morning, and the weather and especially stress. I have changed my salt from speciality salt to just regular little umbrella girl and I seem to be able to regulate the amount of sodium better. I loved the Himalayan pink salt so much but I really think it was making me swell a bit more because I couldn't regulate it as well. I tried some ice cream last night. and even it just wouldn't go down. it wasn't stuck it just stayed in the pouch creating slime. it eventually just came up. I think I am as far as I am going with fills. I have 2mos. before I have to decide. but this is getting more difficult than I care to handle. I want to be like b52. lol. but he would say hold the course be patient and you will come out the other side happier.

I find if my Water consumption isn't good, my band is tight. I usually drink coffee in the am as well.

If you cant eat or drink, some Fluid needs to be removed. Dehydration is something to worry about in that situation.

Today has been totally different ! Ive been able to eat and drink...so i don't think I need an unfill...if it would have continued I would have went to the office this afternoon ! It has never happened before...I'm just thankful to be over it...it was scary

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
