My dr doesn't subscribe to most of the wls myths - but he does believe that carbonation will stretch the sleeve. It can't stretch more than 8 oz, however, so it will never be as big as it used to be. He says yes to straws, to chewing gum, to eating carbs. But a big no-no to soda.

That being said, since being banded 4 yrs ago (revised 6 mths ago) I've probably had a total of about 1 can of soda. I will occasionally have 1 sip from my hubbies soda when we're out (maybe 2x a month) - it just isn't that big of deal to me to give up.

Now take away my carbs and we'll have WORDS...

I dont drink a lot of soda, maybe one can every three months. I am not sure what to believe. However the one thing i strongly believe is that diet soda is an evil being, if you want a soda have a regular one! If that is too many calories get some sugar free fruit juice and put half juice half carbonated water. Diet sodas contain aspartame which is extremely bad for you and has been shown to increase weight as it makes you ravenously hungry. I dont think one soda every month or two will kill you :) best of luck!

I ha drank soda post op. I'm over a year out but I think I first had some about 2 months post op. I drank it sparingly then lets just say that bad habit slipped back and I was drinking it more frequently. Cut it out again now the past month, but the point is I was fine drinking it though I would wait a few months. And I wouldn't make it a habit, but I don't think one even now and then will kill you, but that's just me opinion.

I'm a year out and drink diet coke daily. No issues.
