Day before surgery and SICK!

I have been fighting it ever since last Monday. I have bad allergies and when they flare I usually end up getting sick. Well that happened and today I feel like crud. Have head full of junk and a cough. Unless I clear up drastially I do not see them doing the surgery tomorrow! I have gone through so much to get here. I have had to switch from oral warfarin to Lovenox injections (self administered!) for two days now. I am ready mentally and emotionally. I just pray and worry my physical catches up!!...

Poor thing! That just sucks! I know we live close to each other and allergies around here are kicking everyone's rear. Good thoughts and prayers send your way that you will feel better enough to get your surgery.

Oh honey I feel for you. I was sick the week before my lap band removal. I went into pre op doing fine and as soon as my surgeon walked in, I had a horrible coughing fit. My nurse said "I swear she hasn't been doing that!" So my doc listened to my lungs and decided we could proceed. My band was removed, no complications. BUT when I got home, I still felt like my lungs were full of crud and I could not cough it up because it hurt sooooo bad. So I just had this rattling wheeze whenever I breathed. I soon realized if I didn't start loosening the stuff in my chest, I was gonna get pneumonia. But let me tell you, it was pure painful hell. My advice is, if you are coughing, put off your surgery until it's gone. I know you don't want to have to wait but the pain is not worth it, not to mention the problems you could have with anesthesia. Load up on the musinex, vitamin c, echinacea, and oscillocoxicilliam and if you do postpone, hopefully it will just be a few days. Good luck!!

I had surgery on 9/13 and had a bad cold and cough. They still did the sleeve but the coughing after sucked. Good luck and I hope you start feeling better.

I have been practicing deep breathing, as they suggest to do pre op to avoid pneumonia. My lungs don't feel bad, it is mostly post nasal drip cough. I have been getting out all I can. Also used my Netti pot which helped a little bit. I will just get up annd go tomorrow and see what happens. I've come too far and I am too close to not try. Maybe a new day will bring better health.
