Pre Workout Meal?

Recommended Posts

In addition to my regular cardio workout, I've started weightlifting with a trainer. Because of my current living situation, I have to rely heavily on my Protein Shakes and frozen meals. I'm wondering what a good pre workout meal would be? My idea was Weight Watchers Smart Ones Steel Cut oatmeal. Let me know what you guys and gals think. Thanks! :-)

I don't do a pre-workout meal, unless you call my 6 am Breakfast before my noon workout a pre-workout meal. I prefer to exercise on an empty stomach and I have much better intensity and focus for my workout that way. But some people may not be able to do that. I would say not to eat any closer than an hour before your workout and generally, the larger the meal, the more time you need between the meal and the workout. If not, you may get sluggish and lethargic. I used to eat before my workouts and I often struggled with my exercise sessions then. I found out that insulin spike from the meal caused my workouts to suffer.

If you do have a pre-workout meal, that oatmeal you mentioned or some other complex carb with a little Protein is a good idea. You definitely want to stay away from fatty or fried foods.

I try not to eat before I work out and if I do I wait at least two hours after I eat before I work out. I like to work out best first thing in the mornings on an empty stomach but that doesn't work out during the week most of the time. Generally I'll work out (during the week) in the evenings after I get off work and before supper. I feel like if I eat before I work out then my body is using the food that I just ate as energy during the workout as opposed to burning fat from my body as the energy during the workout. Guess that didn't really answer your question... sorry about that! I hope it is helpful anyway :)

Your idea of steel oats is actually a great idea. I eat the steel oats mixed with 1-2 scoops of Protein Shake 1-2 hours before my daily afternoon cross fit. It works really well to up the stored energy for a killer workout. Yeah, I would do it. I like to also eat the steel oats for my first meal.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
