New Here: Anyone out there to help.

Hello. Well I am New to this site and i don't know much about it. I am looking for friends and helpful advice to guide me alongside my journey. I am 21 5'3 @ 355lbs. I am getting the gastric bypass surgery. I am paying out of pocket through a loan. If anyone else is let me know about applying for a loan. I have only attended a seminar so far. I hope to hear from anyone.

I'm 24 and started 5'3 & 308lbs. I didn't do a self pay though. Mine was covered through insurance. Good luck though! We are all here to support and help! :)

Surgery Date: May 2, 2013 - Amount Lost: 23lbs

What state are you in? Instead of getting a loan, I applied for insurance through BCBS Blue Assurance. I pay the monthly premium, and the $2000 out of pocket max and they covered everything else. Check into something like that and see if you can get an individual insurance plan.

Hey. Thank you for the advice. I will look into that. I live in Oklahoma. What state do you live in? :) How much is the monthly premium fee?

Welcome to the group just ask away & someone will always reply. It sucks not to have insurance but do try to find something as mention above so you pay monthly.

I live in North Carolina - my monthly premium is $1200 - but I'm only keeping them for a couple of months, then I will pick up my insurance from work again. Total I'll end up paying about $6000 out of pocket but so much better than the $60,000 + it was going to cost me out of pocket. The concern about being a "self pay" is if anything goes wrong- for instance they had to keep me an extra night in the hospital - all the things like that add up.

Welcome! I'm 23 and am also in the process of getting gastric bypass! I'm about to start my second of six pre-op month diet. It's an exciting journey and this forum is amazing! Best of luck!
