Feeling Weak Post-op

Hey all,

It's been a week today since my gastric bypass surgery, and lately I am becoming weaker and weaker. I'll admit that I haven't been doing my Water or my Protein, and when I thought it was a lack of protein making me so weak and tired, I started making my shakes yesterday, even though my full liquids stage didn't start until today. I had one shake yesterday (1/2 in the afternoon then 1/2 at night) and I've had a half of a shake so far today. I also had a sugar free popsicle yesterday as well as today, and a few sips of water.

The issue is that I cannot stand for long. I get very weak and lightheaded, and feel as though I'm going to pass out. I just went downstairs to make a shake and after I was done blending I had to drop what I was doing to run to a chair, because I was getting so weak I was starting to black out. I had to sit down with my eyes closed for about 10 minutes praying I wouldn't pass out or puke.

Does anyone else have this issue? I'm probably just going to get lectured about how I need to hydrate more and eat more. It seems so hard to get anything in and I'm sick of broth. Any suggestions? I have a job interview tomorrow and I really don't want to pass out during it, or have to excuse myself!

Thanks,

Sue

Thanks for this thread. I was wondering why I wasn't feeling right' date=' and why I don't want anymore Water. It's hard trying to stay hydrated for me now. I had my surgery on Monday the 17 th, and just don't know what to eat it drink anymore... Need help[/quote']

Once I started drinking more... it made me thirsty. The more you drink, the more your body will crave water. I'd go out and buy a Camelbak water bottle... they say it makes you drink 3x more and I think it's true because I LOVE mine... it's almost like a baby bottle with a nipple, but it's a rubbery straw. The good thing is that it uses suction to keep the water at the mouthpiece, so you're not getting any air when you suck. Any other type of straw is a big no-no after surgery. Also, plain water tends to hurt my pouch... this might happen to others as well, so I'd stick to powder drink mixes. As far as the eating goes... anything mushy works for me as long as its low sugar. I just started chili today with a little melted cheese... it was like heaven, and I'm not a big chili person either! sugar free popsicles are GREAT for after surgery too.
