How many calories/carbs per day?

Recommended Posts

For the first year following VSG, what did you shoot for in terms of calories and carbs in order to lose weight? I am only 10 days post op and I'm already getting around 900 cals and about 120-125 carbs per day. Met with my doctor last week and he didn't really talk about calories or carbs and didn't seem concerned about what I am consuming. He gave me the impression that "my body would know." I should probably just trust him and let it rest, but of course I'm a bit panicked about what I am eating. I know that my info packet says 600-800 cal per day post surgery, but is that because that's all most people can handle or is it because that's what it takes post-VSG to lose weight? On one hand, I have to believe the handouts, which say 600-800/day. But at the same time, I know pre-WLS, if I was at 1200 cal/day, I lost pretty consistently.

Thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,

Angela

I eat anywhere from 500-700 a day and I'm restricted to 40 carbs a day, per my surgeon. I'm nearly 4 mos post-op. If I'm hungry, I eat more, but I keep my carbs low.

It's because that is what you need to lose weight. It is easy to "eat around" the sleeve, filling up the stomach with lots of meals and Snacks throughout the day. It is also easy to frequently eat foods that are high fat and/or high carb and foods that have not enough nutritional value. Counting calories keeps me aware of what I'm eating and what it means to my diet. I'm supposed to eat around 800 calories and consisting of 60 grams of Protein, less than 90 grams of carbohydrates and 22 grams of fat.

I was told by my NUT 60-80 gr Protein, keep carbs low, approx 800-900 cal per day, but everyone's different.

My weight loss has slowed significantly and the PA told me to eat at least 800 calories per day. She first said between 800 and 1200, but when I asked her where to start in that range, she said between 800 and 900 (or 1,000 - I can't remember for sure). I'm almost 2 months out. This was at my 6 week checkup.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
