Is this much pain normal?

I am 8 days post-op now, and still in a huge amount of pain. It is all around the one incision--presumably where he took the stomach out (I had a lapband removed as well...). The incisions don't look infected, I think they're ok.

I can barely walk, it hurts so much. I can't stand up straight, and getting from sitting to a standing position is excrutiating. I'm sleeping ok (on my back, in a lazy boy chair), and while I'm sitting back I feel perfectly fine. But as soon as I move a muscle, it KILLS!

I'm reading about other people going to restaurants, amusement parks, doing exercise DVDs, and I'm thinking, what is wrong with me?

Should I be worried????

Don't be worried! Everyones progress & recovery is different! Don't compare yourself to anyone else. Rest, take your pain meds, and make sure your staying hydrated. And of course, when in doubt ca

  • I was the same way. I was in extreme pain for 2 weeks. I was a little stubborn though and thought I didn't need to take pain meds, didn't need to wear the stomach band and I was sent home with Pepci

  • Ya everyones recovery is way different. For me I was discharged with a script for pain meds and nausea, picked them up, and never once used them. My incisions havent hurt at all (they used the new f

Hello all I had sx July 30th and everything went well but now I'm feeling a burning sensation if I move the wrong way! It is so painful and not sure why all of a sudden this has started.

I'm guessing it is probably the stitch in your muscle. But if it is really bothering you or it starts to get worse, go get it checked out. I started having pain above my big incision earlier in the week. I thought it was my muscle incision, but it didn't get better, just worse. So I ended up in the ER Saturday. They did some tests and told my I have sludge in my gallbladder.

So, unless you're really unlucky (like me-I always seem to end up with the weird complications) you're probably ok. But it's always good to check in with your surgeon. :-)

I was sleeved 8/6 and have also been in extreme pain when I move. I'm still on pain meds and have a binder which helps but getting up and down is the worst. I go see my dr on thurs. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has not had an easy recovery. I'm supposed to go back to work next we'd. Praying that I will feel much better before then.

Hang in there! It will definitely get better in time. Getting up and down was the worst for me too! I still have pain when I'm moving around, and I'm 4-weeks out now. But it does get better, day by day! :)

Thank you all so much for the feed back! I have my 2 week check up tomorrow and it seems to be getting a little better everyday. The worst seems to be at night but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! I'm 19 lbs down so far and very excited! So I'll try not to complain too much.
