too many calories, struggling.....

Sooo I keep reading how many of you only eat 600-800 cals per day, but seem to get in 80-100 gms of protein, HOW??? Today I have had part of a leftover salad with an extra 2oz of turkey, a pc of cheese for a snack, and I'm going to have a Premiere Protein shake. I am already at 457 calories... Are people counting net calories maybe, and subtracting exercise, or do I just not get it???
