My surgeon typically discharges people after one night in the hospital but will allow people to stay an additional night should they feel they need it. Did you think one night was good? Or is two better?

I stayed 2 nights and was glad i did- for the pain meds, IV hydration, extra help from the nurses and techs, help with the first shower, "meals" provided, and especially the rest i got with the IV pain meds. Best of luck!

It all depends on you. Some people have little to no pain, gas, nausea, or anything and are roarin' and ready to be home. I had pain due to hernia surgery and sprained neck and could have easily stayed more than 2 nights but didn't.

I had my surgery at a surgical center. I left within hours of surgery. I did fine. So I would say 1 day is enough.

I stayed one night. I really didn't have much pain, except for about 2 hours before I left the hospital, but that was the gas trying to make it's escape! I was up and walking no problem and felt pretty good otherwise.

I initially was to stay only one night. I actually felt pretty good, but blood levels were low & thought I'd need a blood transfusion so they kept me an extra night. The thought of that was scary. As it turned out all of the fluid they flushed through the IV & blood thinners diluted my blood. Thank GOD no transfusion was necessary.

I was totally fine with one night - I was very ready to go home the next day! My insurance only covered one night, unless there was a medical need requiring more. My surgeon said one night was pretty standard.

1 night was fine for me. I have a very low pulse and whenever I fell asleep that pulse meter monitor would beep and wake me up and the night nurses would not set the alarm lower than 45 so I was up all night with it beeping. I went home so I could sleep!

Weirdest thing, every time I moved or shifted, my heart monitor went nuts. Nurses came running into my room to see if I was ok. When I took a walk, nurses often came running from every direction because my heart rate was really high. No heart problems, believe it was just the anxiety of being in a hospital.

My Dr. gave me the option of one or two nights also. You may not have that option come discharge time. It will depend on your labs and if your up and moving. I had to also be cleared by a PT. I was cleared to go home after one night and wanted to because 1. the morphine drip made me very nauseas 2. I was not allowed to get up and walk alone. I had AWFUL gas pain and in the middle of the night when I wanted to get up and walk nobody would come so I was stuck in bed! It really depends on how you feel. I was happy to go home. The only bad thing about at home for me was that I couldn't sleep lying down flat, it was much more comfortable for me to sleep in the hospital bed where I could adjust the head. So I spent 4 days in a recliner GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you for your thoughts on this. I'll play it by ear and see how I feel. My surgery isn't until 1:00 on Tuesday, July 2nd so I bet Wednesday will come quickly.

One night was enough for me but had my issue with dehydration persisted I wouldn't have argued against another day.

I stayed one night and was glad to get home. They pumped me so full of IV fluids, it would have been hard to be dehydrated the first couple of days. I gained 16 lbs. from IV fluids.

I was in pain, but the liquid lortab controlled it if I didn't move much. Walking was good. Getting in and out of bed hurt. And I slept with so many pillows my bed was like a hospital bed (back and knees elevated).

I checked in at the hospital at 6am, surgery was at 8:30am & I was home by 12:30pm! I felt great when I woke up & even better in my own comfy bed!

I was outpatient. I think it really depends what you're comfortable with. If you are the sort of person who likes to have a nurse at your disposal 24/7, staying longer in the hospital is probably better. If you're someone like me who sort of likes to be left alone to deal with things...the less clinic time the better

I didn't want to stay two nights, but I felt a wave of nausea with every sip of fluids, and you could literally hear every sip I took as it worked its way down my esophagus, due to the inflammation. So, it was the right thing for me to do, to stay until I was able to tolerate fluids.
