May 8th meet with surgeon

Excited! But wish i could find someone to talk to about this. On may 8th i meet my surgeon for the first time. I have my approved referral and everything else complete. I know that every surgeon is different and that they give different people different things to do! But i just want a better understanding of what the first meeting with the surgeon is like. And about how long looking at the date to having the surgery. Just really want meet people who have been through it already. my boyfriend is 100000% supportive and helps with everything but still looking to meet people who are going through it....any help, trips, suggestions would be awesome!!

My understanding is if you've met all your criteria or are working towards it, that first meeting with your surgeon is usually when you set a surgery date. That's how mine went anyway. Good luck to you & so wonderful you have a very supportive boyfriend! Support from loved ones makes a world of difference in the outcome of your journey!

thanks for the response! When did you have yours done?

You're welcome Cheeze! I haven't had my surgery yet. My surgery date is July 15th because I requested summer surgery, when my kids are out of school. I'm just going by the plan that I was given when I attended my first meeting. The program director of the hospital where I'm supposed to have my surgery gave me a plan list & I have had to go thru the check list getting different appointments done & testing done. But she said, once you meet your surgeon, you get your surgery date & that's pretty much it!

Im still in the beginning stages but i had my first appt and my doc told me it was up to meet how fast things went if i did my part they would do there's....i have to get a egd and pulmonary and sleep study a psych eval and all of those are schedule i will ve done all appt by June 12th hoping to be sleeved by July...but at the first appt my surgeon talked about my option i originally was gonna get lap band and she convinced me that wasn't my best option then we discussed all of the test i needed before surgery and also let me know things that weren't required by my insurance like nutrition classes and she let me know that she wasn't gonna do a cardiac test bc it wasn't necessary.....it was about 30 to 45 and i was out the door all appts set and the nurses took care of everything all the referrals i may need etc i have an awesome team:) im very nervous and excited good luck with everything lady!!!!!!

That's my birthday chicka :) good Luck! I'm glad I found thus site too :)

I have my consult on June 14th. No insurance approval yet, but a list of other appts to start making. My worry is if I make all these appts and then get denied its a lot of time and money wasted. Of course I would appeal, but still. I also need a letter of medical necessity, but haven't even spoken to my primary care doc about it. My insurance doesn't require referrals for any specialists so I didn't even think about it. Good luck with your appt, I hope everything goes smoothly!

My first appointment was with the centers P.A. I also met with the nutritionist and my case coordinator. From there ine I do not have any other issues and everything else's like the EGD and colonoscopy are all up to date, all I had to laws get blood work and make an appointment o meet the psychologist. My appointment at the center was last Thursday, and I'm meeting with the psy on Wednesday. Sometime this week I should get an Emil for when my first appointment with my actual surgeon will be. Once I loose 5% of my body weight they will schedule the surgery. My insurance required 6 month supervised item, I was previously on weight watchers and have all my weigh in records. The costumer service agent I spoke with thought that it would be sufficient! So as long as my insurance accepts the wight watchers information, I may be looking at July surgery date!
