Pre-op diet causing ......

Recommended Posts

Possible TMI alert!!

I am on day 6 of my preop diet. It is both liquids and foods from the docs office. I have diareah on and off all week. Its horrible! Anyone else experience this? I am not too concerned about it, but its annoying when I have to make a mad dash to the bathroom!

I thought about that, but the dietician told us it is not true and most will have trouble with Constipation. Maybe I am lucky...? Lol I'm going to ask when I call on Monday.

Before I got on this sight, which was yesterday. I was not aware of a lot of things I am going to be going through. My first appt with the surgeon in Wednesday. I have been approved but now comes the test of the story. I am nervous but I have been wanting this for a long time. I want to have my surgery the first week of June. I hope it goes my way. I just learned about this pre op diet. Did you do anything different before your 2 weeks of pre op dieting?

I have the opposite problem. I've only gone once since I started my liquids.

Use some Imodium. Should "tighten" the stool up.

I have the opposite problem as well - I take Milk of Magnesia every other day to keep it soft. Wasn't expecting the Constipation and had it at work - it was awful, had to suffer through it for about 3 hours before it was time to go home. The Milk of Magnesia took care of it right away. I've been taking some every other day just to keep the stool soft.

Diarrhea and constipation are pretty typical on the pre-op diet, and for right after post-op. I have MOM and liquid imodium on hand for both possibilities. :)

Good luck getting a surgery date. The visit should be easy enough, make sure you ask a lot of questions! Write them down so you don't forget anything. :) Most surgeons explain the different surgical options and let you decide what you want. It's elective surgery, after all. Unless you have some other GI issues, like reflux or ulcers, then I don't see why you can't get what you want.

As far as doing anything differently before the pre-op diet, you don't have to. I "weaned" myself into it by replacing a meal with a shake for a few weeks prior to the all liquid diet. Also, I was doing a low carb/high Protein diet as well. It's really a good idea to start incorporating post-op habits now - like trying out different Protein shakes to see what you like, and getting used to lowering your carb intake. Each surgeon has a different plan, so you may not even have to do a pre-op diet at all. Some people have to do all liquids for a month, some just a week or two, some just the day before, some people get to have a meal a day during their liquid diet - it all depends on what your surgeon prefers!

I wish you luck, you should find a lot of good info on this site. :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
