Hi

I am from May Tx about 60 miles from Abilene. We go to Abilene once or twice a month. If you don't know where May is I am sure you know where Brownwood is we are about 20 miles from there. I had my lapband done in Fort Worth on Nov 16,2006 so far I am doing pretty good. Well just wanted to say hi!

I had the lap band surgery one week ago in San Antonio by Dr. J Keith Wright! I have survived my first week and have lost 17 pounds! So far so good.:clap2:

Hey there!

I live past Lake Fort Phantom, north of Abilene. I am just beginning my LapBand journey. I am looking for a surgeon because I have to pay for it myself (bummer). I am attending a seminar on January 2 with Dr. Davidson. :)

I don't live in Texas--but we own a place in Comanche,(right off of Hwy. 36) and are there several times a year. We go through Abilene on the way in and out. I would love to meet up if the opportunity presents itself!!! We currently live in New Mexico.

I know where both May and Brownwood are. We have family in Comanche, and in Stephenville, as well as several little places around the area.

Looks like you are off to a great start with your band!!! Keep up the good work!

Hmmm.....Brownwood brings up memories of Underwood's BBQ. Is it still there. Sooo good!! (is it surprising I have a 'weight problem'?)

Underwoods was alive and well when we were there in September!!! Hot rolls and all!!! Actually, the hot rolls were all I avoided! It was still pretty good. My real weakness is the catfish buffet we go to, between Comanche and Rising Star. It is all you can eat. While they let me eat for free---My brain still has a much bigger capacity than my stomach does!!! Yeah I relate to the weight problem all too well!!!

I moved to Abilene at age eleven, in 1964. I only lived there for two years, but it was a bright spot in my youth. After being just a normal kid in Lubbock and Sweetwater, I had been treated very badly in Nolan (Divide) and Blackwell. The kids and teachers tormented me for being the new kid and a preacher's kid. After Abilene, in Irving, I didn't do very well, either. I was bullied a lot (no, I was not an overweight kid, just different somehow). But, in Abilene, I was accepted, in fact, popular. Girls liked me, boys befriended me, even my sixth grade teacher sent a note home to my father telling him that it was nice to always know he could look up and see a smiling face. Good old Mr. Merkel. Thank you, Abilene! Richard

Anyone from the Abilene area? Who is the weather your direction today? I am supposed to go to the dr. in San Antonio tomorrow, but with the threat of ice I think I will call and postpone my appt.:cry I was all excited to get my first fill tomorrow but I guess I can wait!

I would love to communicate with those in the Brownwood area. We could set up a time to meet once a month for a support group time to share ideas, recipes, etc.

Anyone out there interested?

The closest two that I can recommend (knowing reputations) are Dr. Warnock in Wichita Falls and Dr. Stewart (Stuart?) in Decatur. Both are very experienced and those hospitals and staffs are very familiar with bariatric patients and their needs....and they have the large size equipment, etc. that are necessary. There may be some closer to you, but you need to make sure they have done lots of lapbands, not but RNY's.

I had mine done in Decatur by a Dallas surgeon who goes there every two weeks - that's the hospital my insurance approved because of their experience, etc). I was impressed with the facilities and with the nurses - they do several a day there and know what they are doing.

My cousin in Stephenville said that there was one in Fort Worth. She just had a kidney/pancreas transplant there, and was there for so long following the surgery as the assured that she was not rejecting, she mentioned my band, and they said something about someone doing them there-------you might check.

We have a small (by TX size) ranch in Comanche!!!
