Am I CRAZY?

So, I met with the surgeon on yesterday and got my date for March 28th. However, before I got the date my family convinced me on waiting till after our family cruise where there will be 30 of us surrounded by food and drinks. So on my mind, I had already decided that if the date was going to be close to us going, which is May 10,

that I would wait till after. Well low and behold when I got that date, which was a cancellation, I was estactic. He assured me that I would just be transitioning to solid foods. I know that if I was going to be successful , I needed to know how to manage my new tummy and Mind to. Be able to function in any environment. So after told my family they freaked....leading me to this thread. For all of you who have been sleeved already, what are the common complications after surgery and how long of a range does the complications last? My family is supportive of the Eating part, they are just concerned of potential complications while cruising in Bermuda? I would love to hear folks thoughts?

  • Wow that's a hard one! I mean I went to Disneyland 6 weeks after surgery and walked all day for three days and rode all the rides and was fine just really tired at the end of each day... I am 47 years

That's a good six weeks out.. You will weigh less and you won't over eat! I'd do it and use the cruise as a celebration. You should be well healed and if you stick with eating right with a vengeance

  • I'm only 11 days out and so far very smooth. But can I come too??

You could 'What if...' about anything. Not to sound pessimistic but you dont have to have surgery for a medical emergency to occur. I would plan on cruising and CELEBRATING life after your surgery. Go on that cruise living your dream not planning it!

Best of luck in whatever decision YOU choose! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Thanks a bunch....that's encouraging!!!!

I'm having sleeve surgery March 29 and am going on a cruise with my partner and 4 little boys May 6-10. I could have done the sleeve after the cruise, but I knew I would eat like a piggie and feel like crap. Now I'm down 9 pounds after startng the preop diet with a week to go. So maybe by cruise time I'll be down 20 pounds or so. That would feel amazing.
