Jenny at the Karingal lunch when we were talking about soda water it was only for a specific condition that some of us get with mucous first thing in the morning. If we don't do the soda water to break down the mucous membrane covering the band hole we physcically can't eat or drink anything else without it coming right back :) The membrane that forms over the hole at night acts like a trampolene and only certian things like soda water seem to penetrate it. Fun stuff!!

Me too I was looking forward to reading a reply, didnt realise it was for a special condition, funny jenny as i had been thinking about it this last week and wishing that i could remember what was said.

<hijacks thread> Hey Jenny!! Long time no see! How are ya? </hijack thread>

I've never heard of the soda Water thing but will definitely keep it in mind for those mornings I can't get anything down...

This is fantastic news! I have been getting unfilled about every 4-5 weeks because I get to a point where I can't get any food down. When I try tremendous amounts of mucus come up. I eventually get to where I have so much mucus that I get swollen and can't get water down and I have to get unfilled. I am hoping this helps. I gave up soda before my surgery, so maybe this will work!!

hiya jess and thanks girls i think i will drink before i go to bed [ only water no grog lol] and have a squeaky clean pouch:clap2:

If your having mucous problems the first thing they rule out before putting you on soda water (which some docs think can cause other problem in the long run) is dairy consumption - a lot of people get the thick mucous build up from dairy (yoghurt, milk, cheese etc.). My surgon had me cut that out first for a few before trying the soda water.

I had the same problem. My Dr suggested "waking up your stomach" with either cold apple juice or a hot peppermint tea. Seemed to work better than soda water as that made me burp for hours
