First Day Back At Yoga

I went back to yoga today for the first time since surgery. I will be 6 weeks post-op on Tuesday & was so happy when I was cleared for yoga this week. I went to a Deep Stretch class & it felt so good. I got in some good stretching, a little sweat and I feel so relaxed!

I would love to find a yoga class where I would not be self conscious.....you know, like a hospital sponsored yoga class.... I haven't been able to find any in my area.

Dana, I would encourage you to just take a trial class at different yoga studios in your area. I am by far the very largest person in any given class. I am usually surrounded by skinny, limber people. There is a real difference between yoga at a yoga studio than yoga in a gym. It's a totally different atmosphere. I found 2 yoga studios in my area. At both the other students were accepting, friendly & encouraging. Also, the instructors would always help me to modify a pose if needed. I chose one over the other because of pricing & their schedule was more compatible with mine. My instructor is like 5 feet tall and maybe 90 lbs. soaking wet. She makes me feel so comfortable though. There is a HUGE difference between yoga at a gym for exercise & being part of a group of people that practices yoga. I would really encourage you to give it a try!

I've been going to yoga (bikram mostly!) for almost 3 years. I'm having the surgery done mostly because I enjoy it so much that I want to be able to deepen my practice without all the fat getting in the way! I'm so glad to hear you made it back so soon and I thought the deep stretch class would be the one I did first post op. thanks for sharing. It's a relief to know so many people are still exercising!
