Hi there! My iron level was extremely low...7.1. I began supplementing with iron and I will take iron up until the day before surgery. (Surgeon's orders)

Funny thing...I knew something was wrong and went to 4 different doctors. It took the fourth one to figure out I was so lethargic because of the low iron levels. Once I began supplementing, about 2 weeks later...I felt great and back to my old self!!

Hope this helps!

My iron was 10 the day before my surgery so we (me and my husband) made the decision to go ahead with the surgery as I knew having a blood transfusion could have been a possibility anyway if something went wrong. Before I could leave the hospital, I had to receive 2 bags of iron via iv.

I take iron pills daily and my iron has tested normal since.

Oh wow! I'm just scared, came this far, and I wouldn't wAnt to leave empty handed

I was sent to a hematologist for 2 iron transfusions 2 weeks apart. My surgery was originally 10/1/12 but was changed to 10/23/12. After the transfusions my levels were better. Good luck!
