Cardiac Clearence

Hello everyone here I am struggling with bad thoughts about my heart <3 <3

I had an EKG last week and the cardiologist said everything is fine and I am pretty sure you will be fine and able to do surgery, But she is telling me now that I need to do an Eco and a Nuclear stress test. I am fine with the Eco cause I know is a requirement from the insurance company but why a nuclear stress test and not a regular one?? My copay is 250 dollars for a nuclear and 0 for a regular. Is not even about the money is about the fact that my understanding is that a nuclear stress is usually perform to people they think has a coronary decease. Please help me understand ... What's going on???

Hi Jamari,

I wouldn't worry too much about the nuclear stress test. If your EKG is normal, they probably don't suspect anything, but just want to be thorough. In my case I had a blockage in one of my arteries, and ended up getting a stent. My EKG showed something wasn't right, and the nuclear stress test showed an area of reduced blood flow. You get an injection of the dye, go for a scan, do the treadmill, get another dye injection right at the end of the treadmill, and go for a second scan. They compare the scan at rest, and when pumping hard from the exercise. The good thing about the thorough work up is if you ever have any issues down the road they will know what your "normal" is for comparison. You will do great, don't sweat it. Best of luck!

Fitzy I truly appreciate your words. Thanks a lot. God bless you always. Xoxo

Jamari,

I had to have the same tests. However, my insurance company did indicate there were tests that weren't as costly. All of them (nuclear, echo and treadmill) were normal.

All will be well.

My husband had to do the nuclear because he was too heavy to do the regular one.
