How Do I Reply Without Quote

I feel stupid for asking, but how do I reply to a thread without quoting someone. My send button stays grated out unless I quote someone ;(

    I'm using an iPad so I click on the arrow at top right corner and click on "reply to thread." (Same on iPhone.)
