Calories Information

Hi there, my name is Gail and I am 45 years old, and got sleeve 5 weeks ago. I am down 50 lbs, which is amaaaaaazing, but I feel a lil misinformed or under informed. I really need and want this surgery to work like everyone else. At my bariatric center, they do not provide much information regarding the sleeve, as they do with other surgeries. I do not want to follow the guidelines of other surgeries because they are also malabsorbtive which ours is not. I do not want to be doing something I am to supposed to just because I was not given the information. So here are my questions..

How many calories a day are we to be eating

How many meals a day

How many ounces per meal

Any other information you were given that may be helpful to me will do wonders so thanks in advance

Gail

Gail,

Here are my instructions from my center:

3/4 - 1 cup of food per meal. Meals should never be more than 1 cup. You will need to eat about 5 times a day or every 3 hours.

600 - 800 Calories

The goal is at least 60 grams of Protein per day for females, under 5'6". 70 grams per day for females 5'6" - 5'9" & all males 5'6" & under. 80 grams/day for females 5'10" & above and males 5'7"-6'0". 90 grams per day for males 6'1" & above.

Protein supplements should be high in protein, but low in calories. At least 12g of protein per 100 calories.

Hope this helps!

I am going for 600-800 calories as well.

In order to do that I eat five times per day and have at least part of a Protein Shake.

I am 4.5 months out and eat about 2 - 2.5 ounces of Protein per meal, or less if I include veggies.

My understanding is that eventually we may be able to fit 3/4 -1 cup in, but it is not necessarily recommended to do so depending on who you talk to. The amount of restriction long term seems to vary.

I started with full liquid being 1/2 cup. My soft diet was three-quarter cup from 3 weeks to 7 weeks. Then a cup a 7 weeks. Thursday will be 12 weeks and Im still at about 3/4 cup.
