Carbonated beverages

I know we are supposed to stay away from carbonated drinks, especially non-diet ones, but it is so hard not to drink a diet coke every once in awhile. I was wondering if any of you still drink them. Has your doctor given you a reason why he/she does not approve of them? I think I read once about the carbonation swelling the pouch or something, but I wondered what everyone else thought.

I was banded at the end of April and have lost about 30 pounds. I had virtually no restriction, and had a 1/2 cc fill yesterday. I do notice a difference.

Thanks for your input!

Wendy:)

I really enjoy diet pop too, but have only had one since my banding on 7-22-03. I'll probably have more in the future, but will make sure that it's in between meals, and that it's sugar free. More like a special treat than part of my daily menu.

I SPOKE WITH MY DIETICIAN ABOUT A WEEK AGO AND MADE THE COMMENT THAT I WAS 'READY TO GIVE UP SODA' AND SHE WAS LIKE AS LONG AS IT IS DIET IT WOULD BE OK. SHE SAID THE NO POP RESTRICTION IS THE FIRST 3-5 WEEKS. THIS IS MY DR'S RULES THOUGH EACH HAS THERE OWN.

I am so glad your dietician said it was okay. Frankly, just Water and Crystal Light can get on your nerves sometimes!

i would do it more as a *treat* not a daily thing. i have heard the carbonation bubbles can cause the pouch to expand before they slide down! i am a fan of diet 7up and am glad i can still drink a few. i figure by the time i get all my Water down i wont be thirsty for anything! :sick lol

i have also heard to let it sit open for a few to let som of the carb die down!

That's why I plan to replace my Diet Coke addiction with iced tea! :( (There isn't a restriction on caffeine, is there?)

Not that I know of, although it is bad for you all around. I am preaching to the choir, because I am a southern gal who likes her iced tea. However, my mother and aunt got me hooked on green tea, which is supposed to be really good for you. I use the Celestial Seasonings brand (for some reason that is better to me that Lipton) and sweeten it with Equal. It is not as wonderful as my mother's sweet tea, but it is soothing to my stomach. It was invaluable when I had just had the surgery.

There are some great diet iced teas out there but you're right...nothing can replace a good cold diet coke!

I asked my nutritionist about diet soda and she said that I could have it but I should make sure that I let the soda sit around a little to get rid of the carbonation.

I have to tell you that there are people out there that are very sensitive to NutraSweet. I was on the Atkins diet a while back and I wasn't loosing any weight. The Atkins center recommended that I cut out diet soda and any NutraSweet products and that really did the trick.

My surgeon told me diet sodas were fine in moderation.

Personally I just don't drink em like I used to.

I've also found a DIRECT correlation between diet sodas and increased hunger and carb cravings. It's very noticeable and normally not work the soda (which never tastes as good as I think it's going to anyhow).

coffee on the other hand...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
