Are you sure you are getting a nicotine test?

Insurance companies do a nicotene test for life insurance. It is possible.

Because he knew i was a smoker he said it was a possibility he would test before surgery mine is October 1 but i see him the 24

I would ask him about using stop smoking aids and how they may affect any testing they may do.

I am afraid if i ask he will definitely test and what if they cause it to be positive and it delays surgery :( i was gonna bring my gum with me so if the test shows nicotine i could show him

i actually have a followup with my surgeon sept 17th and the nurse asked me today if i quit smoking. i was down to 3 cigs a day. my pcp called in chantix which i take twice a day and she never mentioned cancelling or delaying surgery because of it. one thing my surgeon suggested that he will not do surgery on me unless i am nicotine free for 3 weeks before my date. i also use the e cig and i read on here a surgeon offered their patient to stay with her patches on. if you search smoking on here you might find some info.

also i know it takes only 3 days for the nictone to leave your system, you should be ok ;) try to bring yourself to the point to ask your surgeon, it will only benefit you in the end!good luck to youu

What I was told is the actual nicotine can keep you from healing properly. It's great that you are not actually smoking but the nicotine that is contained in the patch and gum is still nicotine and that is what the doctors don't want in you. I smoked for 15 years until I decided this was the path I wanted to go. I quit cold turkey and know that it's very difficult to go that route. I would let your doctor know so they are aware.
