Hi all-

I'm 5 days post op and the pain is not too bad. My one complaint is my ovaries hurt! Esp the left one. Is it possible for the remaining gas to settle low in the belly and put pressure on the ovaries? It's Monday and I.will call the office. It's my main source of discomfort. I've been very lucky to not have had any discomfort as of yet with the swallowing of liquids. I am so ready for some nourishment and to move on to the next stage.

My gas pain was the WORST part. It lasted for 1 1/2 weeks post op. I thought it would never go away. Mine settled in my lower ribs and sometimes my left shoulder. I would call your doctor to be sure. Good luck. "This too shall pass" has become my mantra.

Well, very small amount of gas (carbon dioxide) is adsorbed totally within hours, there is NONE left to "settle" anywhere. What is happening is that the action by the gas expanding the abdominal cavity and stretching things all out to give surgeon room it has irritated nerves going through the abdomen. This discomfort (even pain) cannot usually be helped by pain relievers as it cannot relieve the irritation. Most commonly the effect is felt in the arms or shoulders but feeling it in the gut or lady parts is also possible.

Just give it time. GasX or other anti-gas meds will have NO effect, it just takes time.

Yup, pretty much, although I prefer to "grin and BEAR it". :)

Now, it is possible and quite likely that they may have stomach gas, the poor little stomach is so swollen and sore that any amount of gas causes discomfort, just as it did for us when we had full stomachs, the pain is amplified by the sore and swollen little guy. In that case strips or pills can help.

But the truth is the surgical carbon dioxide does not remain, or "travel" or "settle" and cause "gas pains" that are relived with anti-gas meds.

I had pain in my left lower side today. I have been walking for 20 min per day. It really helps! Pain is gone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
