HELP! REALLY FREAKED OUT - question

Recommended Posts

So it's 2:30 am. Woke up and my stomach was hurting...put on a heating pad. 2:35 stomach really hurting get up draw freezing bath choke down some gas-x. 2:40 in the floor crying almost because the pain is so bad (and I take pain pretty well) call mom to take me to emergency room. Lay in the floor a few minutes and then without warning or anything it goes away.

WHAT WAS THIS?!? Was it just gas because it did not feel like it? It was the worst pain I think I have ever been in.

Sounds like gas pain. Its really painful while the gas is inside but when it goes out, its all better.

I drank a diet coke yesterday (I know better then to do this) and I was in pain most of the night until the gas finally came out. :guess

ouch sorry that happened. Yeah sounds like gas. If it keeps hurting call your lap doctor to see if there is something they can do. I hope it is over though.

Malice, sorry you were in such pain. When I had gas pain after surgery, and once when I had a terribly sore tummy from food poisoning, heat was the only thing that really did anything to help me - especially lying on my stomach in a hot bath.

I drank a diet coke yesterday (I know better then to do this) and I was in pain most of the night until the gas finally came out. :guess

K@t, I read on another thread about diet coke to add some Water to reduce the carbonation. I've been doing this and it really works! I put about one quarter cold Water into my diet coke and I still have the taste, the pleasure, but not quite as many bubbles. It goes down w/o a problem and there are no gas troubles afterwards.

Deana.

Thanks guys. It was SO BAD while it was happening but now that it is over (and daylight has come so to speak) i don't know whether to call the doc or just hope that it doesn't happen again. It was BIZARRE and horrible that it hurt so bad.

I vote call your doctor. He may need to do a barium swallow to make sure everything is where it needs to be. Better safe than sorry!

Ouch, I've been there and boy does that hurt! It sounds like gas, but if you have another incident or feel not quite "right" then go in and see your doctor.

It sounded like you were doing the standard gas treatments. One night I suffered all night long. I took a couple of extra-strength Gas-X, and got in a very warm/hot tub. That was the only comfort that I could muster. Finally, after hours of suffering...BAMM, it went away!

Take care. Shawn

gas pains - been there, done that! Now that I'm banded it's just a side effect I have to live with ---- doesn't happen to often but every now and then it creeps up on you and you just have to wait it out!

My hubby (who is thin and not banded) has had trouble his whole life with gas bubbles. Even he says there is nothing you can do or take - eventually the gas pocket moves and you're fine.

on another note - I'd be careful with carbonation - I know some of you have tricks and some of you drink it just fine. My doctor actually says I can have it ---- but if I take ONE sip of carbonation I am in pain all night. Carbonation is the only thing that is true evil to my banded tummy!

Its funny you should mention that, I had a similar incident the other night, although not as severe.

I woke up with a really bad ACHE in my belly, I could tell it was my band, it was a horrible intense ache, and made the whole back of my throat into my mouth ache too. It was enough to wake me from sleep. It was actually pretty scare, it was painful enough to make me quite worried. I sat up, it didnt go away for about 10 minutes. I dont know why I tried it but I ate some yogurt and the pain went away almost immediately.

Dont know if it might have been a bit of reflux (which I dont suffer from) or what, but it worried me.

But it hasnt returned so perhaps just one of those things.

I wouldnt rush to the doc but would mention it next time you see him.

Hi Malice

I found that if i haven't eatten after my surgery, even just a little ever, i had tremedous pain and a sickness feeling and the gas was very painful. Try peppermint tea and a hot water bottle. But like the others have said seek medical advice. I have a 24 hour number to contact do you.

Hope this helps, :) we are all traveling the same road.

Lana

Thank you guys for your support and your ideas. It was in the morning and freaked out. 2 days ago I had a stomach bug but felt fine the day after then last night I started thinking I had hurt something. Nothing happened today but I will call the doc if it happens again. It is really nice to know that it is not an isolated incident and i'm the only one it's happened to. I'll tell you what gas pain is alot different after the band.

Thanks again, I can't tell you how much it means to me!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
