I got the impression that an EGD scope was pretty much a preop test everyone has. My doctor didn't prescribe one for me? Anyone else not have to have one?

I was sleeved on 3/5. (19 lbs gone!). My doc didn't require one either tho he did do an upper GI.

Amy I believe only with certain patients is required, for example patients with prior bariatric surgeries, GERD or other problems. It also varies from doctor to doctor and what they feel comfortable with. I have read in some medical journals that it's not really nessesary unless you are in a higher risk group like some of the ones mentioned above. My doctor does not require me to have one but does require people with the above mention problems to have it. For your piece of mind you might want to ask him why he does not require it .
