Varicose Veins?

Hey all,

I'm scheduled for April 28th with Dr. Aceves and I'm wondering if anyone out there had big varicose veins before having the surgery? I have one big one in one leg that looks ugly, but when I went to a doctor about it I was told it would be cosmetic (not covered) to have it removed. The area around it did get swelled up when I gave birth but perhaps that's just from all the pushing?

I hear they wrap your legs up before the surgery. I don't have a history of blood clots or anything but my mom had one years ago when she had surgery and didn't walk, walk, walk as I plan to do. It's my first surgery so I'm kind of freaking out about everything! I even booked a first class ticket for the flight home just to make sure I'll have space to move around.

I do plan to have it removed someday but for now the most important thing is to get the weight off.

I did not have any big varicose veins so I can't speak to that, but i do think it is for the most part cosmetic and not an issue for surgery. They did have my legs in compression wraps the whole time I was in the hospital. I also got 3 shots of a blood thinner to help prevent clots. They do everything they can to help prevent them I think.
