Why do some docs give u drain tubes and some not???

That goes right up there with why do some doctors have such a rigid pre-op diet and some don't? And why are the timelines different for different surgeons as to what you can and can not eat? Who knows! You should just follow what your surgeon says because you need to trust him. He should know what is best for YOU and it's what has worked best for his patients in his own experience. As for me, I had to keep a drain in for a week before I got it out where a lot of people either had no drain or got it out before they left the hospital. It was annoying to me but not that big of a deal. My surgeon told me that the drain is there to monitor the blood in your surgery cavity and if a weird color comes out it may indicate a leak. Let me tell you, when he pulled that thing out after a week it was the strangest feeling ever as it was coming out!
