Sleeping Patterns Post-Op

Ok, I've noticed my sleeping habits are very different since surgery. I'm a month out, and it actually seems to get more and more as time goes on. I don't really understand it, and I know I didn't go through this post-op lap band... so I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.

Now, I've always been a good sleeper. I can fall right to sleep once my head hits the pillow and I'll sleep right through until it's time to wake up in the morning.

Here's the thing, it's gotten much more prounounced. It's like good sleeper on steroids! :o I sleep incredibly hard now. Like really really deep. The house alarm actually went off the other night and I was told this and was amazed when I did not wake up from it. It's loud, so that is really some hard sleeping.

Also when it's time to wake up, I simply don't want to. It really takes me a long time to get motivated. In fact, when I get to work I need more coffee to finally get me into the groove. Other than that, I'm pretty useless.

In the first week I had trouble even getting to sleep which was weird for me too. That didn't last long though, TG!!!

So, is anyone else experiencing this? I haven't seen anyone here mentioning this... am I weird? LOL

  • I do think so! Back when I was heavy (heh... "heavy" *snort*) into Atkins, in the early 2000's, I frequented a low-carb forum and very often people would talk about how much better they were sleeping

OMG My sleep is HORRILBE :( I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op and I can't fall asleep for NOTHING! I have to get to the point at like 2-3am where I am so dead to the world in order to fall asleep and then I wake up a few times (really dry mouth and need to drink) and then wake again by 7am :( The only thing I have found that was/is helping me is Nyquil but I know I can't keep taking it :(

Exact same here! Maybe it's nutrition or maybe it's that I haven't had any caffeine since my surgery! I was definitely not an addict but I'd make chai with black tea and have a cup a day and have a french vanilla cappuccino from mix sometimes. i definitely want to have both in the future, if I start waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom again afterwards that will probably pin it down!

I will admit that I have been having a little bit of caffeine lately but I am still sleeping through the whole night! YAY! :o)

Ok speaking of Nyquil above... I've had a cold for the last few days. I decided to take some of this to help me get a full nights sleep. Well, the stuff made my stomach feel like it was ON FIRE!!! I got scared, almost like I wanted to call 9-1-1... I drank some Water to help dilute it in my stomach and that did help. But shortly after if felt like my thighs were burning and like rubber. Sooo weird.

It did put me right to sleep though. However, I think I'm going to start taking it in pill form. The liquid on my stomach was too much of a shock.
