Food Intake

How much protein and stuff should I be consuming in one day? I had my surgery May 21st, and thats one thing I wasnt told.. How many calories, fat, protein and what not... Plus anyone found anything out there other then TUMS that work on heart burn? I CONSTANTLY have it day and night... No matter what I eat or drink.... Starts in the back of my throat and goes all the way down...

My guidelines were 60grams of Protein, 64ounces of Clear liquids per day, 600-800 calories, no more than 30gr of carbs, and I didn't have fat intake guidelines.

The first couple of weeks my surgeon was more concerned about hydration than protein intake the first couple of weeks. I didn't get my full protein in until I got to mushies.

Prilosec and Prevacid are both over the counter acid reflux meds. The Calcium carbonate in Tums, Rolaids, Pepcid Complete can actually cause your acid to be worse. I take 20mg Prilosec once daily first thing in the morning, and wait 1 hour to eat anything.

If your program has a nutritionist, you may want to give them a call. There are tons of guidelines out there, and your surgeon or nutritionist should be able to help you.

I wasn't given a strict numeric guideline either, but will use the sample menus given from my dietician and combine them with info on here.

I have realised the most important thing is fluids - and have told my hubby to have a go at me every time he sees me without a drink attached to me in some way! LOL
