Has anyone had their sleeve done with Dr. Nick?

Has anyone traveled from another state to do it?

How long of a pre op program do you have to go through?

Any infor would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi Judy,

My name is Janet. I am having my sleeve May 10th with Dr. Nick. So excited. Anyway, what I can tell you is, if you are self pay, he charges $12,200. I actually am covered with ins. His pre op, which I started today is the Slim Fast diet. 1200 calories, 5 shakes or meal bars and 5 oz. lean meat and 2 cups lo carb vegetables a day. He is young and energetic. I know 2 girls that had the RNY with him and are doing well. The girls in his office are so nice and helpful and run his support group every month.

A side story I heard. His 7 year old son was in the waiting room and a lady asked him what his daddy did. He replied, he helps people get healthy so they can live longer. That was a done deal for me.

By the way, I am local. Good luck and let me know if I can help you in any way. I'm happy to share info when I can.:smile1:

I have surgery with Dr. Nick May 17! They were able to get my insurance approval fast, I was amazed! I start the 2 week slim fast diet Monday, have tried it several days this past week, but had to have one last...... (whatever) several times... ha ha. Plan to be 100% starting Monday. His office staff are excellent! I'm having the surgery at Baylor Plano. Anyone else having surgery on the 17th?

I am scheduled on May 25th w/ Dr. Nick. I am also local... My primary physician actually used him and highly recommended him and his staff. I am so excited that their are so many others in the area that I can relate to. Anyone attending the monthly support group at Baylor?

I went last month, and it was great... very informative, and very supportive. Many there have already had one type of surgery, and they are extremely helpful to those who have not. I will need a confidence booster on the 12th since I start my pre opt diet on the 11th! I am so excited, I can hardly wait!

Start my diet on Monday... not looking forward to that part. I bought some greek yogurt and had one and a slimfast bar for dinner tonight. It was really good and I'm still full several hours later!

My date with Dr. Nick is May 18th! I'll be starting my pre-op diet tomorrow. I also was told that Dr. Nick was the best by a surgeon and an RN who has been in surgery with him. I had not told either of them that I'd already been to his seminar. That made me feel more confident in my decision. I haven't had much interaction with his staff except at the support meeting and my consultation date. I've tried to call a couple times (Lisa) and have a hard time getting return calls. That scares me a little bit. I had legit reasons for the calls..??? I hope it's not because I'm a self-pay patient.

I don't think it has to do with your being self pay at all, just call back. I don't leave messages I just keep calling until I get someone. They are all so nice, I will be at the support group

Hi Happydestiny, Congratulations on your date. I know it's not because of self pay they are not calling you back. I believe Lisa just got real busy since Aetna is now covering VSG. I think she's just real busy. She's a great lady. I've not had any problems with his office. If you leave a message, make it detailed but to the point and ask her to please call you back.

Hi Holli, I've been to a couple support group meetings then baseball season started. I won't make the May meeting due to the fact I will be just getting home from having surgery but I am going to try to make the June meeting. Hope to see you all there.

  • 3 weeks later...

So how is everybody doing this week? I'm finally feeling better today, think I'll try and not use the pain meds today. I think they were making me nauseous.

So glad to hear you're doing so well! I'm feeling good too! I've been fortunate and not been nauseated at all! Have you gotten your drain out yet? Did you set an appt. or just show up?

I have an appointment Wednesday to get my drain out. Doing ok, still hurts on that left side a lot but that is evidently normal. Can't wait to get this drain out then I will feel more "normal" so to speak. no problem eating or drinking so far. Getting tired of the full liquids and don't like the isopure zero carb drinks really. went back to instant breakfast with extra protein powder.
