I have been thinking for some time now that I want to get permanent makeup (tattoo) for my eyeliner and lip liner.

I personally only know a handful of people who have had this done and out of them one person had a very bad experience and had to have corrective cosmetic surgery. The others all love it.

Do you have it? Good, bad or indifferent.

I have been considering it. I would love to have my eyes done. My lips really don't need it, but my brows could use some too. The problem with my brows is that I have sheer blonde eyebrows and eyelashes. i draw in a slightly darker blonde/red brow, and my lashes get painted with a brown or black. i am not sure how a permanent makeup is going to do with my brows, and if it will look weird for liner if I do not have mascara on.

I've seen the eyebrows get done before and I really loved how she looked afterwards. I have very think dark eyebrows, that can look pretty nice when waxed properly, but I have hated looking in themirror recently because I had a "bad" wax job, they were made to look skinny and curved, so my natural arch is gone, ugh. Right now Im just waiting as they grow out....

My brows have changed there position since Ive lost weight. I know it sounds weird but maybe just the fat around the brow bone is gone. They seem to be more predominant. I just use the mens hair color from the drug store. The just for men beard color is great. I just mix about 1 inch of color and brush it where It needs to go. This works great on my gray eyebrows, so the overall color is the same. I am surprised at how fast the brow hairs fall out and how fast they grow out. I can see the gray ones coming back in. so If coloring your eyebrows is very expensive, skip the charge for the first time and do it yourself to see if it is worth the cost. I would not even attempt the eyelashes though, they fall out easily and mascara is so much safer. Lancome has a great eyelash booster that you put on before the mascara. Its awesome!! I use it under cheap mascara and love it.

As we age our color in our faces change and you will look like "Whatever happened to Baby Jane" as you get to the antique years. Think really hard before you do this. I would not risk it for anything. IMHO!

Preserve your youthfulness carefully..It can't be renewed! I am 58 and still never wear anything but foundation and brow pencil and lipstick.

My mom had eyeliner on upper and lower lids done. At first, it looked great. Now 2 years later it looks as if someone took a dark green crayon to her lids. Things sagged on aging and changed shape when she lost/gained weight. She regrets it. I am sooooooo glad i didn't do it. I thought about it. But my boobies need to come first!

I had permanent make-up done on my lips & eyes. I truly loved it!! My favorite was the eyeliner. I just had a simple brown put on & it looked so natural & nice. However, it fades after a while. I had mine done 5 years ago & it is now gone. My lips looked nice too, but be careful what color you choose. I choose a light muave color that worked well. I had a friend who chose a deeper red color that just looked terrible. Even though I liked my results, I would NEVER do the lips again. That was more painful then anything I have ever done. My lips were bleeding so bad & when I was finished, I saw that there was blood splattered all over my face & her gown & the wall. It was really a miserable experience & I can still feel the pain now as I type this. UGH!! Terrible. Terrible.

a girl at my work does it, but its not permanent, the dye wears off after a few months, but it looks nice.

My eyebrows have 2 years on them. Maybe it depends on who does them or how they are done. It IS permanent, but it does fade or "soften"..just like a tattoo! How much sun it is exposed to makes a difference also. My "regular" tatoos faded somewhat also. I love my eyebrows. Someone mentioned knowing someone that aged and their eyebrows looked funny because they had sagged. The cosmetic tatooing is directly under the natural eyebrow, where my natural eyebrow goes so does the tattooing....it should not make any difference. I hope when my natural eyebrows fade, get even thinner, and start sagging and drooping that I STILL have even the softest hint of the tattoo left!!!!

I had the eyeliner and full lips done 3 years ago. The color never did show on the lips although she did 2 sessions three weeks apart. I had horrible fever blisters for 2 weeks. The pain was awful. The technician offered to redo my lips for free, but no way would I go through that again! I love the eyeliner though, but had to go in this year and get it retouched because of the fading.

For those of you who are considering or already have permanent makeup. I just wanted to interject a bit of food for thought here.

I am scheduled for an MRI/MRA today and in questioning me to make sure there are no metal parts and pieces that might cause issues with my testing, one of the questions asked is whether I have any tattoos or permanent makeup of any kind.

Apparently, there are metallics in the ink used in tattooing/permanent makeup which may render you ineligible to have an MRI/MRA in the future. I am not sure if people in the business of doing these tattoos, etc are informing people this could present a problem for them if they ever need an MRI in the future. But, it might be worth looking into before making this type of decision.

I found it interesting and thought I'd pass it along. (Please don't shoot the messenger.)

My understanding is that tattoos are only a problem with MRIs if your tattoo was done twenty-some years ago. Tattoo ink used to contain some metallic powder, but that hasn't been the case for 20+ years now. The industry is much more regulated than it used to be.

I had both permanent eye-liner and fulll lips done about 6 years ago. The eye-liner is a dark brown and still looks great. I have very dark lashes, so the liner merely makes my lashes look fuller at the base. I'm not worried that it will look unnatural as I age because it seems to be fading gradually. By the time I'm in my sixties, it will probably be very faint.

My lips were done in a natural tone that perfectly matches the inside of my lips. The lip color fades fairly quickly, and I have it retouched every year to maintain the color. And, yes, tattooing the lips is the most painful procedure I've ever endured. After the first time, when I didn't know how excruciating it would be, the technician only used numbing cream, which didn't seem to work at all. Subsequently, I go to the dentist and have him numb me up completely before the tattooing. I never have to bother with lipstick or lipliner ever again (unless I want to). During the day, I just use clear gloss or chapstick. I'm very glad I had it done.

I would not have just lipliner done, though. Have the entire lips tattooed. It will look more natural and you won't have to worry about keeping lipstick on.

Before committing to the procedure, do research on the technician, ask for references, and ask to see photos of her work. Communication is also key. Make sure she understands exactly what you want.

My friend had the eyeliner, and lipliner done. The artist was very good and the lines were great but the lipliner began to spread and the lines color changed over time and the color was too purple on the lips. The eyes were great all the time. Her lips had the problems.

That would be the problem. I used to work for a plastic surgeon who did the tattooing, and the eyes always looked great, and even when it began to fade it didn't look unnatural. The lips, on the other hand... I wouldn't do it. Even if it looks OK at first it won't stay that way and you'll ALWAYS have to wear color over the top of it to avoid looking freakish. Go for the eyes though!

I've had my eyeliner done for 20 years. It has neither faded or shifted and I love it--it's a smokey blue/grey. The procedure was new when I did it and it cost a fortune but has paid for itself over years of enjoyment. I agree with Skye... "DO YOUR HOMEWORK"... It is, in fact, a tatoo and all artists are not created equal.
