I am worried... throbbing pain? there was pain after surgery.. any abdominal surgery will be somewhat painful but I wouldn't call it throbbing.. Some people have a lower pain threshold than others but I would call my surgeon if I was in that much pain.... walking, drinking and make sure you take your pain meds before it becomes throbbing...

There will be pain at the port area, you need to call your surgeon if it is unbearable. What helps most people is to wear lose clothes, sleep in recliners, and keep a heat pad and pillows and walk, walk and walk.

Also Gasx helps a lot of the pain is from gas and port pain.

The pain should get better in about 1 week, but again call your surgeon if you have redness or warmness at your port area.

Yes i have a very low tolerence for pain. Gasx hasnt done much for me either. I pretty feel the pain all over. I dont even know where the port is. The insicions are not bleeding and i keep walking and drinking Water. I will call the doc in the morning for some other pain meds. I wonder if i would have been in less pain without the hernia repair.

I was banded three weeks ago along with the hernia repair and was also surprised with the pain. Having had 5 c sections....I didn't think it would be that bad but it was.. My port sight on my abdomen was extremely sore but I had more pain from the diaphragm area which sent me to the ER because I couldn't take any deep breaths. Keep up with the pain meds before it gets too bad and although they say to walk alot...after my ER visit.. I was told to rest and do very minimal walking in order to not exert that diaphragm muscle as much and give it time to heal. They gave me morphine in the hospital until it was better controlled and then changed my pain scrip which helped. The second week i just laid around alot and took my pain meds and it started to dissipate somewhat. At this point, I am still a bit tender but can take deep breaths and started walking again but at night I am still sore from the day's activities. Ever day gets better but I know how you feel because I was kind of getting freaked out about it too!

Call doc for a new prescription or dosage if the vicodin is not working to alleviate acute pain.

Use icepacks on the port area on occassion to minimize pain

Get distracted as to not focus solely on the pain

It does get better, hang in there

Get up and walk around. Don't just sit there being in pain. Get up and get moving. Put some ice packs on the area of the port site they help a lot, but the best thing to move gas and help your body heal is to move.

Take Tylenol, that worked for me. If you really need something stronger call your surgeon.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
