The Pre-Op Diet

I have heard whispers of this pre-op diet online and would like to know what you all have experienced with it. Tell me what you ate for meals, how you felt on it, etc. My doctor has not told me start my pre-op diet yet, but I want to start it ahead of time.

So far I have seen the dietician once. I see her again on July 18th, 2013 (a month after my intial appointment) and I have not lost any weight. She gave me some complicated goverment issued plate booklet to follow and I just find it too time consuming and difficult to figure out. I'm the type of person that if you tell me what I can eat and can't eat (like Atkins) I succeed. Her program reminds me too much of weight watchers and counting points for each ladder of the pyramid, blah blah blah.

If you have had success eating certain meals, let me know. I'd LOVE some good advice :)

Thanks!

My Pre op diet was 2 weeks. That called it the liver shrinking diet. I knew atkins like the back of my hand so for the first week, I did that as atkins shrinks your liver anyhow and second week, I did herbalife shakes with some lean meat and veggies thrown in now and then. I was like 9lbs down Pre op. doc said my liver was perfect

my preop diet consisted of 3 protein shakes, a small salad with 2 tbs. FF dressing and clear broth with veggies allowed in the broth...like green beans, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. Was on the diet for two weeks prior to surgery and lost an astonishing 17 lbs. I'm now down 71 lbs. since the preop diet started on January 1st of this year.

Every doctor is different so you will want to follow what they tell you to do but for me, I did 4 weeks low carb, high protien then 2 weeks full liquid protien shakes. I lost about 15 pounds. It was rough but well worth it. Doc said my liver looked great!
