Linda's Journey

Ok. I read through quite a few entries here, and I've gained insight and encouragement through Tawnya's story. I have decided to begin my own.

Recently, I've been diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, and have pre-diabetic conditions. My weight has ballooned to 299.2, with a very high BMI. I'm also short. I also have other disorders... some related to weight, some not. More on that later.

My husband and I talked with my medical doctor today. We all came to the same conclusion. I need some sort of gastric bypass in general, and have decided to go with the lapband. I found that my insurance won't pay, but will pay for most of it (I swear that's what they said). They will only pay if there is a medical condition attached to me.

I have decided on a hospital, and will hear from them this week.

So my journey begins.

Updates as they come in....

Your high BMI plus the co-morbidities should make you eligible for insurance coverage for the procedure. Good luck on your journey. I have high blood pressure as well and I've gone from two differen

  • I would agree that your blood pressure and high BMI should make you eligible for insurance payment. Either way, the journey is worth it! I wish you every success with the program you choose.

Still anxious/eager about the class. It can't get here soon enough for me. Patience is a virtue I do not possess.

Dieting pre-pre-op didn't serve me well today. I shouldn't have even gotten out of bed. Ugh. It was a day of days. When I got home' date=' my blood pressure was 190/106. Nothing huge happened, just a lot of little things. I may need therapy. lol[/quote']

I'm the same way, very inpatient.

Don't get discouraged just try little changes at a time. Then when surgery comes you will be ready. I had days like that, when I didn't want to get out of bed or felt like why did I get out of bed today. I found walking outside helped with my mood or just getting out and doing something I like or play your favorite music. Hope that helps. Remember you are on the road to a new journey already and that's a big step on its own.

Graduation party went well yesterday. I didn't think about banding at all' date=' which is unusual since I'm so obssessed with it. Enjoyed my time with the grandkis and son & daughter-in-law. Blood pressure ran on the high side of normal, so it was a nice night. Couldn't sleep though, so I was making egg salad at midnight. It was good.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

That's good that you got out and had your mind off the lap band. Congrats to your grand kids!!!

I thought I would share this article I read since you are so eager and ready for the lap band. The article says you can buy chia mix from health food stores or GNC and mix it with some Water and it will make you feel full like you have the lap band and you will only be able to eat a little bit and it keeps you feeling full. Let me know if your interested and I will try to look through my magazines and find the article to tell you all the details.

Thanks for that. I needed to hear that just today. I'm having a *fat* day. Where you just feel fat. I have*ugly* days too, and today is both. Hubby says I'm not ugly. lol Brat. I did feel well enough to clean the house and do laundry. I'm just taking it slow. Tomorrow, the ONLY thing I'm doing is grocery shopping. One day at a time. Sometimes, one minute at a time.

Thanks. I'll just look it up on the internet and see if I can find it. It will save you the trouble. I appreciate it.

Today I had no thought of banding...til now. Ran around like a chicken with its head cut off all day today. Nobody had what I needed. I think its a conspiracy.

Sorry to ask this question on this thread, BUT I cant figure out how to start a thread of my own! I am using the app for the iPhone. As you can see I can respond to threads, but for the life of me I can't figure it out! Please help! :) thank you!

I don't know how to do it with the app, but in general, here are instructions to post to this forum:

Drop down bar at top: Forums/Forums Home

Click: Basics for Lap Band Surgery for Beginners

Click: Pre-Operation Lap Band Surgery Questions and Answers

Click Black Button: Start New Topic

I think that should get you there. Good Luck.

Called in my record of blood pressure for the last week. Looks like I'll be starting a new med (yay). I think that gets me a bit closer to insurance covering the surgery.

I have an iPhone as well and that's all I use to get on this forum, that's actually how I found this forum through the app. Anyways just click on whatever subject you want to post on like pre surgery or post surgery and then at the top there will be an arrow with a box around it, click on that and go to new thread and your ready to make a new thread. Good luck. Hope that helps.

That sucks that you have to start a new med, but hopefully that does bring you closer to getting the lap band. I know you want the lap band and I'm sure you will get it no problem, but try not to stress out on it to much. I know easier said than done, but the stress is not good for your blood pressure. Keep your head up Linda and remember you have already started the journey just by inquiring about the surgery. Best wishes to a brighter day today :)

I need to find a good way to relax. I meditate, but not regularly, and it wouldn't help while I'm driving anyway. Deep breathing is good. I'm going to look into other methods as well. Losing the weight will definitely help.

Doctor prescribed Losartan for HBP. Took it yesterday and it threw me for a loop. Severe fatigue, nausea, bad poopy stuff going on. Today is much better. Looks like its working for the blood pressure, though, so I'm good. No sides today.

Feeling tired today. Gotta get my chit together. I'm watching the grandchildren at noon, and making a nice anniversary dinner for Larry.
