Surgery in 2009

Is there any one out there that has the lapband for 4-5 years? I have some questions about how long the band can stay in you, does it ever need to be removed? How often are you going in for check ups if you don't need anymore fills. Please help, its been a few years since I had the lapband surgery and I'm starting to get a little afraid of the port and how often I should be checking up on it?

I haven't had my band for 4-5 years, but I can tell you what my surgeon told me. Once you reach your goal weight and are maintaining, you should go see your surgeon to have your band checked yearly.

Once you reach your goal weight and are maintaining, you should go see your surgeon to have your band checked yearly. Think of it as just one more step in the recommended yearly physical we're all supposed to get anyway.

As long as you take care of your band and have no complications, there is no reason it ever has to be removed.

Mis is right. i have had my band for almost 4 years and I like to see my Dr twice a year - I like to confirm that everything is ok.
