From freaked out to scared..

Sh*tless. The massive amounts of hair leaving my head daily has sent me into a major depression. I now can see my scalp in the front and the part has widened. I could fill a sandwich bag with hair daily. Im heartbroken and this side effect has taken over my life. Constant worry. Banded 10.23.12. Noticeable loss since middle of December. Crazy loss starting at about 8 weeks. Im using Nioxin taking Biotin since before surgery. Im taking iron..i am low in ferritin. I take prenatal vitamins. My scalp feels funny and tingly and disconnected from my body. Im freaking out. I told the nurse and showed her by running my fingers and retrieving a fistful..she said thats odd with lapband. The Dr. told me I wont go bald and that it will come back. (He suggested Rogaine.) However my fear is it wont. My eyebrows half fell out about two years ago and i have no hair on my forearms that never grew back after i waxed them once. I know Ive posted this before and Im hoping to hear from someone who went through this and recovered. I know its only hair and maybe I sound shallow...but its unreal that i could lose so much everyday. Help

I completely understand what your going through!! I was banded May and by July I noticed a difference I in my hair becoming thinner. Always had thin hair but it has become more noticeable. I part my hair to the side to cover the scalp in the middle. I can say I see that its slowing down now six months later. I did lose very fast and my Dr thinks that could be why. I take biotin 10,000 mcg daily how much are u taking ? I also wash my hair every other day instead of daily. It does slow down u just have to wait it out, take vits and make sure u keep protein intake high..hang in there!!

I initially lost 30 lbs very fast..since it has stalled im at about 40 to 45lbs. I was taking biotin 5000..i just upped it to 10,000. I cant imagine six months at this rate. I would say ive lost atleast 20% already....devasted.

I have been in this panic. But I do believe it is growing back. Always thin and always will be, but hon, if you need a wig, better that than obese in my book. I also took zinc cause someone said it would help. It seemed to stop at about 7-8 months out. Best wishes. It is NOT shallow, we are women and hair is part of it! Prayer for you!

I would make an appt with your pcp and ask for a tsh level to check your thyroid. I have hypothyroidism which caused my hair to thin ten years ago. But after banding it got worse so I def can sympathize with you. But I can honestly say it seems to havr slowed. Dr also recommended skin.hair and nail vit but

they are huge pills and are to be takin 3x daily.

Your welcome..believe me when I say I'm right with ya..I know how u feel..hate getting hair cuts, hate walking in front of people because my hair thin in crown area also, but my manager said the other day my hair seemed to be growing back in and that made my day. I know I ll never have that thick hair but I've learned to style accordingly and take biotin faithfully. Would I do it all over again knowing my hair would get thinner? You betcha sweet ass I would lol. Hang in there and relax ;)

Having your thyroid checked again is a great idea. In fact, having an entire blood panel run would probably be helpful. This way they can see if anything could be the culprit that is being missed.

And btw, it's not shallow at all. My hair is a lot thinner because I've had 2 surgeries over this last year. I'm not dealing with anything even nearly as severe as you are and even I get upset at times when I feel the difference. We're women, our hair is VERY important to us. I totally "get it" and why you're upset.

Hang in there.
