I am going in Sept 6 to get my band. I was told to only eat meat and cheese(eggs also, but I cannot eat them!) for two weeks pre op. I have not done good at all! Yesterday was the worst. Today I feel horrible! I am wondering if I should go to liquids from here on out to try to reverse the damage?! I am really stressing and really upset with myself. Any advice would be great!

It sounds like you were supposed to be on an Atkins like diet, which means no carbs. If that's the case, liquids would be a bad idea unless it's carb free.

The whole purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver for surgery. It's rare but there have stories of people who've come out of surgery with all the scars but no band because their liver was too fatty and enlarged to safely complete the surgery.

Your surgery is only 3 days away. Do exactly as you're supposed to be doing for the next 3 days. I'd probably seriously restrict my calorie intake if I were in your shoes, too.

Thanks. I was thinking of just doing Protein Shakes (with water) for the next 3 days...

I am a carb addict, so this is the worst diet ever. I always seem to self sabotage also!

Loose 20, gain 25 back...Agh!

I am on shakes pre surgery and they have carbs, so be careful. I would follow your dr's recommendations to a t before surgery. Good luck.

This is not a time to beat yourself up over noncompliance with your pre op diet, but it is a time to come to terms with the reality that perhaps you are not sufficiently motivated to have your surgery. If you want to be successful with weight loss with the band, then it will require your daily compliance with the diet that your surgeon recommends and exercise.

I'm not trying to discourage you, only to share the realities of how much accountability for weight loss is placed on the patient. There will not be anyone but yourself to comply with your diet. I do understand that we are human, and as such we will not be 100% diet compliant every day, however, if pre op you have not been able to change your eating patterns, my concern is that post op you will be one of the posters who becomes discouraged and angry at yourself for not loosing the weight you wanted to.

As we all know, the band is only a tool to use to assist with weight loss...you have to make the commitment to be successful. At this point in time, you seem to have not made that commitment.

Best wishes...

My surgery is September 6 too. This Preop diet has been difficult these past few days. I would love to just park my ass in the kitchen and eat until I can't move. But we have to remember the end goal , we have to remember why we are doing this. YOU ARe STRONGER THAN YOU THINK!!! If I was you I would do like 800 calories a day with maybe 30 carbs A DAY. Don't stress yourself (when I stress it triggers my food addiction). Stay strong please. Not following doctors instructions after surgery could result in complications with the band. Best of luck !

Was your surgeon able to perform the surgery as scheduled?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
