What Is A Band With Plication

Recommended Posts

I've spent all day on this forum today and I see "Band with Plication" quite often. Would someone please explain to me what makes this different than a simple Lap Band procedure? Just curious B)

Hi there, I'm having band with plication on sept. 11th. I will try to explain. So you have seen pictures of the stomach with the band correct? ok, so the plication is where the dr. puts the band on, and then then he or she inverts your stomach and stiches it. So it looks like the band with the sleeve, but the good thing is your stomach is not removed like the sleeve, but is the size of the sleeve. This band with plication has even better results than just the band on it's own. It's close to having the sleeve done, but not invasive like the sleeve or bypass. If there was a problem the stiches could be taken out and you would still have a normal size stomach. They are finding that the plication (invirting the stomach to make it smaller), is thought to keep you fuller longer than just doing the band alone, becuase you have a smaller pouch once the food leaves your band pouch. Hope that helps!!!

It's getting more and more common for people to have the band with plication.

Oh Thank you! Now I know! And I'm glad I asked! I am not certain if my surgeon offers this - but I am certainly going to ask now!

I'm glad that helped!! We are band sisters, were both having our surgeries the same day. Mine is at 7am, what about you? We will have to keep in touch and see how each other is doing. Have you started your pre op diet yet? What does yours consist of?

i had this surgery and highly recommend it..

Gastric Plication (Stomach Folding)

Gastric Plication is a relatively new procedure that is quickly becoming one of the most popular options in weight loss surgery. It consists in reducing stomach volume by folding the grater curvature of the stomach to its inside part, Forming a tube form or “sleeve type” of pouch, similar to a gastric sleeve surgery, but without THE stomach cutting or stapling required in other surgeries. The pouch is formed by hand stitching and confection.

Advantages

  • Reduced Surgical risks compared to a gastric sleeve surgery.
  • There is no foreign body inserted, so there is no foreign body failure.
  • There is no counter indication and a good option for women who would like to get pregnant.
  • It’s a lower cost surgery as it doesn’t require lap band or lap band staple costs.
  • Recuperation time is also quicker than with bypass or gastric sleeve surgeries.

carolinagirl: Thank you for sharing!

hls50: My surgery is at 9:30 am. My pre-op diet started today. It consists of Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch and then a sensible dinner such as 3 ounces of chicken and vegetables. I drank 8 cups of Water today, 2 cups of chicken broth and walked for 30 minutes. I must admit, I haven't been this strict for months - and it actually felt good! The most challenging time for me is in the evening - so I am planning to go to bed early to keep me away from the refrigerator. Yes, let's be certain to keep in touch! :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
