Hi!

I'm looking into weight loss surgery. I thought I was set on Lap Band surgery, but just recently started looking into the Sleeve Gastrectomy. How did you decide upon the lap band? What are the pros and cons of each? Also, I would like to get pregnant within the next few years.... would one surgery be better than the other?

Any help you can give me would be great!

There are pro and cons to each of the weight loss surgeries available. I have a friend who had the band. She had it taken out because she felt she was not losing the weight fast enough. She had the sleeve done and now is having so many problems. Leaks' date=' major acid reflux, other problems, and still is not losing the weight. Do you know that you have to take an acid reducer for six monthbs after a sleeve (maybe for the rest of your life). They don't tell you that. All I can think of when I think of her and her problem is, well they can't put her stomach back together. So do your research carefully, chose your surgery and surgeon wisely. Sorry to hear your friend is having such a hard time. I can assure you she is in the minority of sleeve patients. Admittedly, leaks do happen, but they are rare, excess acid can be a problem, but still doesn't affect the majority of sleevers. I for one haven't taken medication since leaving the hospital except naproxen but that's for my knee. And to say she hasn't lost weight with all those complications is even more rare. In fact this would be the only time I've heard this. Typically people that have a leak lose very quickly because they just can't bring themselves to eat very much. Is she on the VST board or even this board? I'd really like to hear her story from her.
