Eating Food One Week After Surgery

Did anybody feel the need to eat food only a week after the lapband? I feel hungry, and the liquids don't satisfy me.

Suggestions?

Yes, for the most part we all do, but DON'T! You're still healing and could do potential damage. Just continue to drink water to keep yourself full. You'll get through it...I promise.

  • I felt hungry for the first time at about 6 days post-op. I was on a 2 week full liquid diet after surgery (then advanced 2 weeks at a time). I noticed that cream Soups really helped the hunger, but

I'm six days post op and I'm not hungry at all. Maybe you should call your doctor and see if you can start mushies, like baby food. That might help you. I'm on mushies and I cannot finish a 3.5 oun

OMG really is it that bad to eat regular food? I've been eating but very small portions because i've been so hungry. I'm scared now, ima start with liquids again :(

ThanX

Yes, it is bad to eat regular food before your surgeon or dietitian gives you the go-ahead. In order to digest regular food, your stomach has to expand and contract to mechanically break down the food into particles small enough to be handled by your intestines. That muscle movement can displace the band, which is still in the process of seating itself against your stomach. Also, your stomach is still healing at the places where it was sutured. Pop a suture, and you're in trouble.

I think most of us were very hungry and very sick of liquids after a very short time on the post-op liquid diet. It's no fun, is it? I think the only humans who enjoy a liquid diet are newborn infants. But this journey isn't all about fun. It's about your health, and that's worth everything (to me, anyway).

Hang in there!

The only "food" I have had permission to eat are things that melt in your mouth like liquid, such as yogurt, jello. I also tried a Jamba Juice which I know isn't the best, but very filling!
