I'm reading some of the stuff here and it's making me think if I'm doing the right thing.

I read a lot of slips this month.It seems like a slip is not "if" but "when", and that freaks me out. More surgeries to have to endure.

Yesterday I saw a pulmonary specialist and he said he is glad I came in about my asthma because "Monday your ass is on the line " in his words.

And I just got my period. I have a really hard time with them as I am PCOS and I have two uterine fibroids. I get really weak and dizzy and a feeling of general malaise. They are really heavy, enough to make me anemic. I have to take Iron pills.

SO last night I lay in bed really not in a good place:cry !!!

It is natural to be apprehensive before such a life changing experience. You will be fine. And think how much better you will feel once you start losing! Sorry about your period, that just stinks! I have found since I started losing weight that mine have gotten much better.

I was pretty nervous too the week before my surgery and I found that it was worse when I had my period too. Consider yourself lucky that you are having your period now and not during the surgery time!

I also have PCOS and have pretty rough periods too and they really do contribute to the negative feelings and fear. I just try to keep remembering that I did those to help get rid of those health issues.

Hang in there. Soon the surgery will be over and you'll be healing and feeling so happy that you took this step.

I have asthma too and they gave me a breathing treatment before I went in for the surgery. I got another one when I got up to my room after recovery.

It might be something to mention when you get the hospital...or call your surgeon and ask.

Sorry about the yucky period. I am 1 month post op and I really didn't think I was going to get a period. It came 5 or 6 days late. My doctor said that was normal, so don't be surprised if your cycle is wonky next month.

Thank you three ladies for replying, it makes me feel SO MUCH better to know you have been through it and understand what I am going through.

It would be a major relief if the weight loss helped me during that time of the month. It's so bad everything stops. I can't do anything but feel very sick on the couch.

Thankee Vines. The surgeon's office said I'm the first one out the gate Monday morning, which means a 5:50 call time. We have a drive, so we will be getting up at 4 am. Yikes!

Not quite the way to put it, but sounds like the asthma specialist was saying this might be a last resort to help the asthma, and it definitely will. Not a very good bedside manner though huh? I think everyone is scared and apprehensive. If we weren't we wouldn't be human. You will do just fine, and just think how much better your asthma will be afterwards...then maybe you'll have a good comeback for this "asthma dr". Good luck and best wishes on a speedy recovery. Go into this thinking thinner, healthier, wiser and happier and you shall be. It's probably getting up so early in the morning that is the real culprit here No one really wants to be first, but we want it over with.

Everything will be fine LB ((BIG HUG)). I was nervous all the time before mine, but I had it on 3/3 and everything went fine. Just take it minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day and before you know it you will be on the other side! Sorry about your monthly visit.....I got rid of mine in Sept. of '05!!!!!!!(read: HEAR THE ANGELS SING!!!!!) I guess like they say: This to shall pass! Best of luck to ya!

I couldn't sleep last night. I am so worried about the surgery. It's more so the after of the surgery worrying me. I am going through a bad flare of fibromyalgia and asmtha right now, so I am worried how my body will react to the surgery.

I'm so worried I will not heal right or my lungs will have such a rough time I will end up in serious condition..

Everyone is different, but what makes you think you are so special the band won't work for you?

Bubs baby, your asthma right now isn't as bad as mine was before my surgery. I know this because you haven't been hauled off to the ER days before your surgery, and you haven't said you are on daily nebulizer treatments. You didn't spend a couple of weeks in hospital over the Christmas break because you couldn't breathe either, RIGHT?????

All I can tell you, which probably isn't going to make a damn bit of difference is that my asthma is all but cured after being banded. I went from using an inhaler every 3 weeks to taking acouple of puffs a month. My biggest NSV is that I didn't die from resperatory failure, and you know what?

Based on other asthmatic bandsters here, I really believe that your asthma will get that much better too. I know you don't believe me, but it is what I believe.

As for your fybromailagia, mine has gotten dramatically better too. I have very few flare days, so much so that when one hits, that I cannot believe I spent so much time like that, that a flare was normal instead of a flare.

When you don't feel crappy all the time it is amazing to realize how crappy you felt before.

So, that's tough love Vines style.

I know some of you must be like "What the hell is her problem..?"

It's a little embarrassing but I have to be honest with all of you in that I do have panic disorder and I've been really triggered by that pulmonary doctor saying "my ass is on the line" on Monday. So that's part of the reason. One that anxiety comes in it kind of erases rational thought and thinking.

The only thing that calms it down is a someone else "talking it down" in a real grounded way. SO thanks

Heyas Leener, I know you've been nervous about this for a long time now. Questioning if it's right for you and all. Take a few minutes to drink that nice cup of tea that Vines gave you and reflect on your life's potential if you were suddenly told that the band is not an option for you. Would you be relived, or disappointed? I think you'd be disappointed. And I think you would be taking a bigger risk with your life by not having the surgery. All of the extra weight on our bodies causes it to fall apart, and that is manifested in things such as heart problems, breathing problems, muscle problems, etc.

Accept that after surgery you will be sore, it will be a few days of having to nurse yourself back to health, you will even ask yourself, "OMG! What have I done?!" but each day will get better and the time will fly by. I'm already over two months out and it seems like just the other day that I was in your shoes, getting anxious and nervous about the upcoming surgery.

Something I really want to stress to you is this. This is not to scare you.. so dont let it. This is to protect you. *hugs* Do NOT rely on the hospital to be 100% on the ball. Tell them over and over again - I have asthma, I'm alergic to this medication (if you are), I have PCOS and am on a heavy period so I'm feeling enemic. Whatever you need to tell them to be sure they follow up properly.. tell them again and again. And if you have a spouse or someone else that will be with you, tell them to keep reminding the medical staff of those things. I filled out so many papers about my allergy to penicillin and yet when I was being prepped for the surgery I told the nurse again and she looked at my chart and said, "Oh, ok, I'll change the Dr's orders on that now." And then she put a big yellow band on my wrist with Penicillin written on it in red. They had me set up for Penicillin in my IV before I went into surgery! I would have died. So just make sure you are watching out for you. Ok?

I sent you a few private messages w/ my phone number. I was in your pre-op class and understand your anxiety. I asked Linda for a xanex and that really helped. I took one the night before and one the morning of surgery. My surgery was March 7th and I'm doing well.

The pre surgery stage was the worst for me, psychologically. Once I had the surgery, it was such a relief that It was easy to endure the physical discomfort.
