    Morning Sickness or Too Tight?

I agree with the above poster. You really should have some of the saline taken out so that you're able to eat the necessary amount of calories per day to support your growing baby. I never had morning sickness or vomitting during my pregnancy but I did have my band loosened 3 times during. I started at 2.8cc in a 4cc band. At about 3 1/2 months, I had .4cc taken out just in case I needed to eat more. At 5 months, I had another .4cc taken out prior to flying in the event the change in altitude affected my restriction (and it did!). Then, at 8 months, I had 1cc taken out because my little guy was pushing up on the band and I got fairly restricted. Best of luck to you!
  3. I took Duet chewable prenatal Vitamins. They're in the shape of a heart and taste really good. Prenatal Vitamins, Nutrition During Pregnancy - DuetDHAec
  4. spudgirl, you should never discount the fact that you've already lost 41 pounds! That's fantastic. Imagine where you'd be if you hadn't lost those 41 pounds. I would suggest waiting a little while before TTC because it's healthier overall. However, I do wish you luck, whatever you decide. BTW, I was 2 pounds below goal when I got pregnant.
  5. Cool! I'm glad to see you here. I'm 3 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight so, for the most part, yeah.

Thanks for the kind words about Little Lenny! Gavin is so handsome!

Dr. Lavin in Covington did my surgery in September of 2005. His practice is called Surgical Specialists of Louisiana and his web site is www.whyweight.com.

    Good luck!

  9. Oh, and I haven't had any skin removed...yet! I hope to once I've had my 2nd child. I have an 8-month-old post-lap band baby right now but I want one more!

To answer your question, it took 1 1/2 years to get to 165. The last 20 or so pounds is the hardest but well worth the effort. Thanks so much for your kind words!

    Virtual Model

While browsing the message board on obesityhelp.com, I came across a virtual model and thought I'd try a few for myself. The web address is http://www.mvm.com/en/go_shopping.htm# if you're interested in creating your own.
  13. Background for question: On another message board, a woman was wondering whether or not she bought the wrong type of Protein shake (bodybuilding vs. plain protein) and mentioned that she is restricted so much that she's limited to mushy food at the moment. This woman was banded on 11/23/05. She also mentioned that she's going in for fill very soon. However, she never mentioned that she was replacing solid food with Protein shakes. A woman responded asking why she was still on protein shakes this far out and that the #1 rule for bandsters was no liquid calories. I responded saying that contrary to what she thinks, not all doctors agree with her and that both my doctor and nurse practitioner and perfectly fine with my drinking a Protein Shake for Breakfast because that's when I'm the tightest. Ok, so she then replies that, and I quote, "It's well-known that the 2 exceptions to the no liquid calorie rule is folks having up to 2 nonfat milk servings per day and the breakfast shake if they are too tight in the mornings to eat solids. But they should not be used in lieu of solid protein...most protein needs should be gotten from real food so that the band can do its job...it doesn't restrict liquids, thus the rule." Now, for the question. Are those 2 exception really well-known? I've never read them anywhere. Or, is she just trying to cover up for the fact that she jumped the gun with this woman and I merely contradicted her? I'm probably blowing this way out of proportion but every response/post I've ever read from this woman has an air of self-proclaimed superiority and it just drives me batty. Your thoughts?

    Question for the Veteran Banded...

I eat pizza. Granted, it's only 1/3 of a slice, but it's still pizza!
  15. I was diagnosed with PCOS 5 years ago and was told at that time to try a diabetic diet. I tried it but it didn't make much of a difference..maybe 5 lbs. So, I went on the Atkin's induction phase for 6 months and lost 30 lbs. within the first 3 months but didn't lose another pound the following 3 months. Of course, after I went off of Atkin's I gained the 30lbs. back...and then some. I've read that because of PCOS, some women will experience a plateau and won't lose any more weight. However, with the band, you can and will lose weight. Now, while I completely understand the syndrome, it doesn't logically make sense that just by restricting my caloric intake with help from the band, I will lose weight. Anyone else have questions about the logic in this scenario?

    EXCESS SKIN questions!

I was obese for over 20 years and have excess skin on my tummy, inner thighs and upper arms. I also have deflated breasts. I will (hopefully) be getting a combo tummy tuck/thigh lift/breast implants as well as the new arm lift where the incision/scar is in your armpit AFTER my husband and I have a baby - - not pregnant yet, mind you. What really gets my goat is when people who have never had a weight problem think that excercise alone will get rid of excess skin. They are so wrong. I began exercising 3 months after surgery and my skin would probably look the same if I hadn't. There is no guarantee that your skin will bounce back. Only luck is on your side.
  17. I was banded on September 16, 2005 in Covington, LA by Dr. Thomas Lavin.
  18. We have the Scandinavian Foam Matress Oslo model. It's similar to the Tempurpedic, but less expensive. We're very pleased with it. Scandinavian Foam Mattress : May & Company

    Wellbutrin?

My husband takes Wellbutrin to aid in smoking cessation. After being on it for about 3 weeks, he experienced severe itching but it eventually went away. He started at 150mg, went as high as 450mg but is now taking 300mg.

For Parents: How'd I do on a discipline issue?

I thought as much, which is why I imagined I was preaching to the choir. Thank you!

    Airport Security

I've flown numerous times since being banded and the titanium in my port has never been detected during security screening.

For Parents: How'd I do on a discipline issue?

Even though I'm a step-parent, I'm going to chime in. I think your punishment is appropriate for the infraction. Taking away access to the very thing they snuck out to play on will teach them a great lesson. Obviously, your girls are very mature for their ages and know the difference between right and wrong. However, sometimes certain things can be extremely tempting and children will still cave in. Heck, we as adults tend to do the same thing at times. And, as much as some parents don't seem to understand, children want to be punished and will respect their parents greatly because of it. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir on that one, but wanted to state it nonetheless.
