Starting All Over And Frustrated

Recommended Posts

I am starting over! I got my band in August 2010 and 4 months later I got pregnant. I have a 10CC band and had 7cc when I was pregnant. Never removed any Fluid and felt I was able to eat just anything when I was pregnant with no restrictions. I had lost 30lbs with the band and gained it all back when I got pregnant. I lost the pregnancy weight 3 months after giving birth. I then went to get it tighter. I have 9cc. So, it has been 3 months since I got my fill and I am not dropping anything!! I am also not gaining... I work out, and my eating habits are not bad but, I know it can be better... !

So here I am again, trying to stay motivated and do this again!!!<_<

Anyone experienced this before???

Congrats on the baby. Some people really need a lot of Fluid in their band to feel the restriction. Funny how different it can be for everyone. Good luck to you! YOu can do it. You exercise so that is a big plus. Maybe if you have been doing the same thing for a while you could change it up. I lost 130 some pounds and came to a screeching hault! OMG I have never been so frustrated in my life. I knew I didn't need a fill and I was eating well and exercised very regular. Went and visited my Dr and my dietitian and they suggested starting a strength training regiment. I now go to "body pump" at the gym. After 2 weeks of doing it (3 times a week) I have lost 9 pounds in a little over a month. Maybe it was because of that, maybe my body just finally gave in to the plateau... anyway it seems to have kicked me back into loss mode.

Good luck to ya!

Right now im also starting over and going back to basics and i feel no restriction what so ever, do you?

I haven't been blessed with a baby since being banded (if I had been, I'd earn an entry in the Guiness World Book of Records), but I've had an experience that seems worth telling you about.

When I was about 20 months post-op, my band slipped and I had a complete unfill. The unfill worked to cure the slip, but when I was in the middle of getting refilled, my port flipped so it was nearly impossible to get fills. I had to postpone surgery to fix my port because of personal stuff going on, including the deaths of my mom and my mother-in-law. So another year went by before I got close to the level of fill I'd had before the slip. And lo and behold, that time around, my experience of restriction was nothing like the first time. I felt like a baby bandster who had to re-learn all my satiety signals. Once I got it figured out, I started losing weight again.

So, my message to you is that a fill level that worked before may not work later, but that doesn't mean your band is never going to work again. Maybe you just need another fill. Even a small fill could make a big difference, and if necessary, your band can be filled beyond its official 10 cc capacity.

I know it's hard to return to the same level of excitement and commitment to weight loss as you had as a new pre-op, especially when your life has changed in such a major way. I don't know you and don't know what deeply motivates you, but if I were you, I'd want to become the healthiest woman possible so I could see that baby grow up. If you can't do it for you, do it for your child!

Thanks everyone.. I have to agree with you Jean that is the reason I am really trying to stay motivated.. I want to be able to lost the weight and be active for my daughter who in no time will be running and wanting to do more. I am doing this one more time but will see my dr to check for any slip or problems that my band may have,.

I have days I feel restricted and other days that I don't... Thanks everyone who has reply, Hope to hear more stories related to mine.

Hi my name is kim. I just came back to this site and posted my first post in 9 months. Then went to read through post and found this one! So funny how this works out! I will paste the message I posted on the main page. Id love to stay in touch with you and we can maybe be a support to one another since going through the same thing!!! Heres my story....

I'm baaaack!!!!!! So I was banded on July 7th last year, and three weeks later didnt think I was healing very well so I went to the dr and found out band was ok, but I was 8 weeks PREGNANT! So yes, I was 5 weeks pregnant when I had surgery. 13 years of never being able to concieve then SURPRISE!!!!!!! Thankfully my baby survived surgery, xrays, lots of test, rapid weightloss, B12 absorption issues and extreme anemia, oh and pre-eclampsia.

I did not have a fill after my surgery, because of the pregnancy. It was left with the small amount that was put in during the surgery. I had no problems eating whateer i wanted. I did feel full quicker but also got hungry quick too. After I delivered my little miracle baby, within a day I noticed a huge difference with my eating. I started feeling really full really fast, couldnt eat bread or eggs without getting stuck, and couldnt drink while eating without feeling really uncomfortable. I talked with my OB about it and he said that during pregnancy the blood flow is so increased that digestion speeds up, so that is why I probably didnt have a problem while pregnant.

My baby girl is now a month old and I have lost 35 of the 55 pounds I gained. (I lost 35 pounds my first trimester) so I am 10 pounds less than my surgery day weight. I am excited to finally getting to utilize my lapband, but very nervous!!! I have not followed any of the lapband rules, and I am scared I wont have the results I may have had if I had had time to work the band before hand. But I am ready to give it my best. I look forward to seeing my surgeon May 3rd, and hope I will get my first fill and start seeing results.

Congrats on all the bambinos! Glad all is well. My surgeon has all his female patients take pregnancy tests right before surgery, literally right before, like when ur getting iv hook ups, if test is positive, he will not do the surgery.

I was told that would happen. I had a nursse who was really stressed and they were short staffed. I honestly dont beleive she did the test. I left the urine in the bathroom like I was told to do, and I remember thinking, she never went in there to test it. But I never would have dreamed I was pregnant, or I would have said something about it. I went through 7 years of fertility treatments before deciding to adopt my son. I never dreamed it would have been a possibility. Ive thought about going back and requesting the records to see if the results are in my chart, but I figure they probably covered their tracks... who knows!

There would be no way to cover that. Lab results are usually time stamped by a computer system and you could easily see whether the test had been run pre-op if you looked at your in/out surgery times.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
