I Could Really Use Some Advice/a Mentor.

Recommended Posts

Banded on 11.11.10. Faced a lot of struggles in the beginning.. I'm a traveling hospice nurse & after I was banded a life long friend became terminally ill. She was diagnosed w/stage 4 cancer and placed on my hospice service. I didn't get 'filled'for 7 months after my surgery. In the beginning I was okay.. Had very little in my band. But during my last fill session I became increasingly ill and was vomiting multiple times a day every day. I chewed, hardly ate anything but puree, etc. It got to the point where I couldn't even swallow my own saliva. They removed some Fluid but I still had trouble. i Continued to vomit, lost hair, nails breaking & teeth ruined d/t vomiting. They finally took ALL fluid out & I gained 15lbs back. Still have no fluid in my band and my body has never been the same. Any advice would be grately appreciated. I'm scared to get another fill. They never scanned me & I didn't know to ask for one.. I guess It could have slipped w/all the trauma.. Not sure how to proceed. Thanks

Personally as an ex nurse i would def ask for a scan, you need to make sure all is ok with the band before u start looking for fills again. I would also suggest that the stress of what you have been through with your friend must have impacted in your physical well being and i am sure some of what u have experienced physically will not all be down to the band.. Stress can cause muscles to tighten as i am sure you know, imagine that knot in your stomach u can get from stress along with being banded.. it cant help the band at all.

At the moment you have only gained a small amount so now is the time to attack this problem and sort out what u can do to help you .. Make the appointment and start your journey again.. good luck :)

I know that the stress of your friend's situation wasn't good for you. But it would have been tough whether banded or not. As a nurse, you should know that Dr's DO serve a purpose in life so TALK TO YOURS (&/or lapbad staff)! What you're going thru physically can't be good at all so, get professional advice (maybe counseling, too) abt your band/body/mental condition so you can GET BETTER! Also, get scanned (just to know how things are, if no other reason) so you won't worry! Like "Lap Bad Evangelist" said, make the appointment & start your journey again! Don't be afraid to ask your band dr/staff for band-related advice/help…anytime! That's what they are there for! GOOD LUCK!!! Keep posting so we can know how you're doing ~ others do care!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
