I just finished my pre-op meeting and I don't know if I am happy or scared about how non-strict my surgeon is. I read all of the posts on here and I hear about 2 week pre-op liquid diets and the post of diets progression from Clear liquids to full liquids to mushies then solids. I was prepared for that when I went in today. However - instead I will be on clear liquids for 3 days then full liquids until I get back in for my pre-op with is 9 days after surgery. At that time the nurse said if there are no complications that she will put us on solids. Our pre-op diet with this surgeon is: 2 Protein shakes, and then a healthy lunch dinner with a requirement of 60-80 grams of protein a day and no carbonated beverages.

I should be elated...but instead I am worried. I am assuming everyone else's surgeons has them on liquids for a long time for their stomach to heal...but not mine? So strange. A small part of me is disappointed because in some ways I want to be told that I cannot do what I have always done....it just seem a little lax.

I would love to hear success stories of those who have had a lax surgeon ilke mine...it would make me feel much better

BTW - I should mention that 48 hours before surgery I am on full liquids.

if you liked the doctor and office people, trust what they say. you will know if you are ready to go from liquid to mush to food. If it does not feel good you don't move ahead with different food.

My doctor isn't that strict either. I was on clear liquids the day of my surgery and then the next day. After that I added cream soups and puddings and yogurts. Now 6 days out I am having scrambled eggs, tuna salad, mashed potatoes, etc. It's all in small portions and it is all soft, but it works. I was so ready as I was so hungry. My next step is to add soft foods which should be about Wednesday or Thursday--baked fish, baked potato, etc. It's all good. Your doctor would not steer you wrong!

And my doctor doesn't require any kind of diet, either liquids or even reduced intake, before surgery because he discovered that no one does it. My post-surgery is also the same as Otters'.

My doctor is "aggressive" and believes in getting the band working as quickly as possible. After surgery, I did two days of liquids, then two days of mushies, then regular diet as tolerated. I had my first fill at two weeks (normally it would have been three weeks but I had a scheduling conflict and they moved it up a week) and was released to exercise, then had my second fill at five weeks. I've not had any problems or complications after getting over the initial icky feeling right after surgery. Now I feel great, I'm losing weight, and I have all the confidence in the world in my doctor and his staff!!!

I had no preop diet except for the usual nothing after midnight, and my doctor has been like otters38. Also when I have a fill fluids for 24 hrs. I usually go 48 because I feel the need to.

Toddy - sounds like my doctor. I will have my first fill in 3 weeks after surgery too. I have read some posts that say they can't have one for 6 weeks.
