Well I'll start by introducing myself. My name is Becky Noe and I live in Colorado. I just had my surgery on February 15, 2012, and just moved into my soft food stage.

I've not had a fill yet and my Dr said if i keep losing 1-2 lbs a week and am not hungry that we can push out my fill.

That being said, I think my scale is on CRACK LOL according to it I lost 19 lbs so far...but wait..one day i get on and it says 275, i get on the next day 275 i get on the next day 275 i get on the next 277!! What the heck!!

Anyway daily weigh-in's are not healthy for you..causes too much stress...that's what i keep telling myself.

My reasons for getting lap-band are twofold. One to be a healthier me. I need it to live, love and laugh with my family far into the future. I tried all the other things...weight watchers, Atkins, South Beach and Slimgenics. The latter was a decision after the devastation I encountered in 2009. I went thru Kaisers hoops..on the waiting list for a year, all my classes and tests done, surgery scheduled for Sept 2009....lost job and insurance in July 2009.

Slimgenics worked very well for me...lost 44 lbs...then plateaued ....they couldn't get me out of it for NINE Months...talk about frustrating. Then of course they say..well you have used up all your weeks..you have to pay for more and I was like WHY would i do that..you haven't helped in the last 9 months. So instead of paying them, I just started dropping money into the savings account. Even after a second job loss. My husband and I decided to Self Pay so there were no excuses.

The other reason I wanted to do the surgery, is my daughter and I breed, raise and show Australian Shepherds. Well for the last 8 years SHE shows them, I sit on the outside of the rings watching, taking pictures and dreaming of the day I can do it again myself.

Besides that I do Web and Ad design, Photography, Jewelry making and make Braided Kangaroo Dog Show leashes. All while working full time.

I am really looking forward to the new me and the next stage of my life and also looking forward to delving into the archives of this board for information and hopefully making friends.

Becky Noe

Ok you newbies.. Best of luck. I am an oldie but a goodie. I want to recomend that you say bye bye to all bread and all of the white flours. You will lose you weight faster. I lost 89 lbs in 15 months. And I am now 63 years old. No soda. Give up these things like candy, cake pie, cookies(all those high carbs ) and in the future when you are thinnner yoiu might want to add those things. ***I doubt it*** IF I can help anyone please ask. ilene

oh also. I weight myself every day. NO problem there. We fluctuate everyday. If you are not cheating and you are following the rules the fluctuation should not bother you. I keep my list in a book. I started it Jan 1 and on March 1 I saw that I lost 5 lbs.

I pretty much figured bread and whites would be gone..but it's all good...if you don't have to work for it..it's not worth it. It will be tough with the bred as i LOVE a good loaf of french bread LOL

Sweets not a biggie..i thought giving up pop was going to be rough because well i was a pop-a-holic but haven't actually missed it the last few months.

Now instead of heading out to work and grabbing a mountain dew..i just reach a litter farther and grad a bottle of Water.

I'm having issues with the lack of caffine from the "only Decaf " rules but that's not bad.

I've not had my first fill yet. Dr says if i keep losing the 1-2 lbs a week then he'll push it out a bit. Part of me is "Cool" part of me is "groan" lol want to get that first one overwith to eliminate the stress of the unknown.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
