I am 4 weeks post op, I get my first fill on October 4th. It seems like I have no problem eating foods. Now don't get me wrong I am eating the right kinds of foods and the right amounts (oh and right calories) but it doesn't seem like there is anything I cannot get down. I can even drink large amounts of water. I'm assuming after my first fill this will all change?? I'm asking because it seems like even though I can't eat the same amount of food, that I can still eat the same foods I ate before surgery and nothing seems to be hard to digest.

Yeah I'm the same way I've had no trouble with getting foods down. I can drink a good amount of liquids at one time. Only time I can't is in the morning and at night after 11. My band must get tight at that time. I haven't tried a lot if things so idk if I can tolerate everything I used to eat. I know chicken, beef goes down fine. But then again I chew everything up like crazy lol.

For a while you are going to feel little to no difference even with a fill for most people. It depends on how large of a fill you get for your first fill and how big your band is. I currently have 5.5ccs in a 10cc band and I am just now starting to really feel restriction when I eat. Be careful, eat very slowly even though its going down easily. It takes the brain 20 minutes to make the connection to the top part of your stomach signaling you are full. If you eat slowly you have less of a chance of stretching your pouch. Good luck

It took me 3 fills to get @ restriction the second fill held me for about 2 months. The 3rd I got almost a month ago & still jave a lot of restriction.

I had my first fill yesterday and I was same as you by the 4th week after surgery. it is because the band lossens after you lose each time. So I am expecting 3 weeks of feeling satisfied after a little ( 4oz at each meal) - and maybe by week 4 right before my next fill I will feel this way again. NO WORRIES you will walk out after your fill not being hungry.

I'm almost six years out and there's nothing I cant eat. Some people are just like that. I can eat bread, rice, Pasta.

But I will say, some things are harder and I've naturally gone off them over time - bread for example. I cant even really put it into words, i can eat it, it doesnt get stuck but it doesnt feel good to eat. So I rarely eat bread - just the occasional piece of toast. Yet when I was unfilled last year for 9 months, I suddenly loved bread again, and ate it regularly - though in moderation. The minute my fill went back in, I stopped enjoying it, almost instantly.

I've lost weight easily and kept it off for years simply by eating all foods, just less.

Thank you all for your posts. I am actually 5 weeks post op not 4 (I mis spoke on my original post). I think I know how the restriction process works and that it may take a while to feel restriction. What I really wanted to know is will I be eating less after my fill? Right now I can eat over a cup of food without feeling anything and although I stop myself at a cup, I just want to be reassured that after my fill I will feel satisfied after a certain amount of food?

I had my surgery on aug 22 and till my first file (yesterday afternoon) I could eat and drink like before

I tried very hard not to and to only eat 1000calories but I was starving

At my follow up the pa said this was TOTAL NORMAL, for nyu anyway, the time between your surgery and the first fill is to 1. Recover (we cut in to you ) and 2. Learn how to eat the new way

(chew till it’s liquid) small bites and small portions

He said we don’t expect you to lose any weight as you have no restrictions

I knew most of this mentally and from this site but it would have been nice if they told me

Personally it seems like them spend so much time on stuff I know or is common sense and not enough on the things I need. I some to this site and see people losing 20 pounds during the pre surgery diet and another 10 before the first file and I feel like I am doing something wrong

Everything you are feeling is normal

Take this time to practice your eating and before you know it you will start having the fills and the weight loss we so desperately want

I'm the same. In my 5th week and i can eat anything and I can eat much more than 4 oz at a time, but I'm trying to stick to that amount. I don't really get hungry much. Not losing weight but have maintained the 35 lbs I lost pre and post op. but I feel great and looking forward to a fill next week.

Thank you so much Helen098 for that information. You are right, I also don't feel like we are always told what we need to know. Most of the information I got has been from this site. I was not told anything about weather to expect or not to expect weight loss after the surgery prior to my fill. I was also told not to worry about calories right now (until my fill) to just worry about getting food down. Well I can eat a lot of calories (maybe not as many as before but enough) so I went online to see how many calories I should be eating with my current weight and have been sticking to righ around 1000 - 1200. For all I know that's too many calories. I just feel uninformed about the process prior to your first fill and your message has really helped!! Thank you bobrocky also, now I don't feel like I am one of the abnormal ones!!
